View Full Version : Low Latency North American Host for Game Servers
Matt - Kerplunc 01-06-2009, 09:08 PM Hey, i'm looking to get a dedicated server for hosting video game servers. I'm looking for something in North America with extremely low latency. I need the ability to get Windows server licenses as well. Preferably not too expensive.
dreamcodedesign 01-06-2009, 11:04 PM Are you looking for a particular region in North America? Such as like East Coast US....
All the best,

All the best,
Nope, not particulary. Just somewhere that gets a decent or low latency all around the US and Canada.

My experience with the Peer1/ServerBeach network has had low latency.

Thanks, i'll take a look
Jacob Wall 01-06-2009, 11:22 PM I had softlayer servers in their Dallas/Washington DC/Seattle DC's.
By far their best, is the Dallas DC.
Why?
It has the most connectivity
Is in the central US, meaning good pings for everyone in the US and Canada.

I get about 80-90 ms off SL from Canada, not bad. Not amazing though.

What ping did you expect? I'd play any game @ 90ms ping. Even though I get 9ms pings to them :P
But I'm only a few miles from their DC.....

Oh i expected about that. That's good from going to the US from Canada.
I get about ~50-60 from my servers at Carat Networks, and im on the other side of the country and using a different ISP.
Heres a test IP from Carat: 24.102.56.128

Wow. might just get it from Carat then. My friend in the UK gets about ~100 from it.
Matt - Kerplunc 01-07-2009, 12:22 AM Wow. 30ish ms from SoftLayer's Seattle IP
67.228.118.21
garysimat 01-07-2009, 12:38 AM generally everyone loves internap for gaming. softlayer uses internap so there you go ;)
ok honestly you can't pick one DC to go with you have to spread it out. The best carriers are the ones who use more than one uplink and bandwidth provider so the routing will always go the fastest way to you hence the internap craze. btw, seattle softlayer is qwest.
dreamcodedesign 01-09-2009, 07:24 PM Anyone got a test IP for ServerBeach
I hope this helps Matt. I don't know of the IP's you can test. But, I hope a speed test would help. http://www.serverbeach.com/infrastructure/geo_diversity.php
All the best,
Matt - Kerplunc 01-10-2009, 01:17 AM Sorry, i got some test IPs from ServerBeach
ServerBeach - San Antonio - 66.135.38.24
ServerBeach - Los Angeles - 72.51.43.139
ServerBeach - Virginia - 64.34.169.113
Just sent them an email asking
vpsville 01-19-2009, 07:50 AM I'd recommend going with Peer1 as well, their latency cross-continent is amazing.
FibaHost 01-19-2009, 12:44 PM what part of Canada are you from? Quebec or Ontario would do best on the East Coast and central like Texas etc
if you are west coast then of course Cali would do you best
Stevie21 01-19-2009, 06:41 PM I would check out colocrossing, large gsp companies incl. myself use them and they've been great so far. Server pings are low and reliable support is great to. If you need any help with your gsp company don't hesitate to drop me a line. Take care and goodluck!
Creed3020 01-23-2009, 09:38 AM If you want low latency and a solid network, which good access from Canada go with Softlayer @ Dallas. The diversity of carriers there is hard to beat, especially considering they recently increased capacity and carriers again for that location.
