View Full Version : How do we make them pay?
Speaking of pay :stickout what can we do, besides panting and cussing at the screen of the computer, when a webhost abuses his/her service? (ie: ripping prices, service sucks, downtime, not getting what was in the package, etc)
What forums besides this one can we post our experience and what other actions can we take to aware the others?
I heard of BBB are their any others?
How can we make them pay? Im sure there are a couple of webhosts who do not deserve to be in business.
alohahosts 09-16-2002, 12:19 PM Most hosts that treat their clients poorly will end up hurting themselves. Even if you do nothing, the host will go down due to their practices.
But I can understand your desire to let others know about these types of hosts, so if you must 'tell all' just be polite and do slander anyone.
As for other boards, don't know, so I can't help you with that. But in the overall scheme of life, a potential customer doesn't know about these boards anyway, so would it really help?
Just my thoughts.
Im sure a potential customer, if he is potential, should know what kind of business he is getting into, he should recognize his market and see which is good and bad.
:D
Techark 09-16-2002, 12:28 PM I think a better question is how do you avoid getting ripped off to start with.
Try asking the age the people running the host, do a google search on them, do a search here, not only on the company but the user name they post under, ask if they do this for a living or part time.
And most important of all. If it seems too good to be true.. IT IS>
It is good?
or too good to be true?
I got that line in another thread and it meant: it is good :)

"If seems too good to be true, then it most like is (too good to be true)"
therefore, its false...
alohahosts 09-16-2002, 12:35 PM do a google search on them, do a search here,
But based on the fact that out of the millions of people on the Internet, only a small percentage know about this board. Most wouldn't know that you could research a host, anywhere for that matter.
So where would you first time website builder go to look for this information? that is where to post information I suppose. But the first time computer user, doesn't have alot of knowledge, so it would be pointless.
A advanced user would have the knowledge, and could look here for information. But I have to question the bases of the information. Sometimes there are two sides to every story, and sometimes there isn't.

Been there tried the search, found a small problem with the webhost i will be registerring with. But i dont think its that of a big issue, i hop. Anyways i should start a small package with them and hopefully everything will go well.
sitekeeper 09-16-2002, 12:54 PM Yes there is a lot of bad hosts around to be sure, but there are far more bad consumers buying from these hosts. Nothing against you Kriz, but too many times I see people putting too much consideration on price when making hosting decisions.
I see many people posting their list of hosts that they have narrowed their choices down to. For the life of me can’t see how they came up with these selections other then price. If anyone would do a search on the list some of the hosts have the worst reputations. A few weeks later you see a post like this one from that person saying how they got ripped.
OK, I’m babbling now, but my point is for the consumer to do some homework and take some responsibility for your decisions.
Yea i compared most of my findings, was going for dot5 but i just want to try this one host. Looks interesting.
Before deciding on this one i did some comparisons with other hosts. But whats annoying is that sometimes when people ask for a good host no one really suggests, even though they know which ones are good

This is classic. I would bet 90% off all post that customers flame or bash on their host is due to their own poor judgement or inability to understand how commen sense works.
They sign up with new host just starting out with no track record. The sign up with host with low-spec servers and no access to them for support. They don't check and make sure they have phone numbers. They buy services that no one in their right mind can truly offer. They fail victim to the flavor-of-the-month club here at WHT (a new host that appears out of nowhere with tons of users and positive remarks - you don't get a prize for beingthe first to sign up and post about them). etc....
Look at what people buy here. Then you wonder why they come back here crying. Then they do it again and again. Like it is their fetish to get shi**y hosting and come complain about it.
It is too bad when people get burned. But many should have learned the first time. How many times have we heard "I was with Cyberwings. They really sucked. Does anyone know where I can get another host with 1 GB of space, unlimited bandwidth for $1.00/yr?"
<edit>
I type slow. So, yeah - what sitekeeper said.
I posted a last thread that was named 'cut to the chase'
Why is it so hard to suggest to people what webhosts are good and what arent.
Im going to make a new thread i hope this will enlighten the community a bit and get people to really start talking (out of experience) about which webhosts are that and that
sitekeeper 09-16-2002, 01:26 PM Have you searched for info on Dot5? I know opinions of them on WHT vary. I personally found that their server I was on for about a month to be slow and the server loads were very high. They could of had a client with a problem script or something.
I have had a few people tell me they searched for a hosts domain and found nothing on WHT about them but yet they saw a post in the advertising forum. I think it is a bug in WHT’s search engine, if you put in “hostdomain.com” and search you might get nothing. If you put in just “hostdomain” you will get all kinds of things.
Site keeper just tell me what webhost or webhosts you find reliable stable (good)
I will appreciate that much
