Hi All,

I have come accross a problem with Webalizer that has been covered in other posts on how to (hopefully) fix.

The majority of sites on one of my boxes are fine, but I have one big customer in particular who has just bought to my attention the problem of no stats for a couple of days then large spikes then nothing again.

I am going to try the fix, but I have the following questions based on my guess that this will only fix stats for future.

1. Can I make webalizer go back through the logs and show the figures as they should be?

2. If yes, how?

3. if no, any ideas on how I can get the correct stats for the past month for this customer?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Grant

Ok, getting desperate here....

Does anyone even know how to get all the old logs and if there is a program so as I can get even some basic close to right stats for this customer?

Well, the fix is probable to turn on incremental logging, see
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9484

But that's all I can help you with :(

Thanks Pingu,

I think I should have this on also, but I also read somewhere that I shouldn't turn this on until the start of the month or I may lose all previous stats for this month.

Do you know if thats true?

I think I have fixed the actual problem, although I will not know until tommorow mornings stats, but the previous stats that are missing are still missing.

I guess the only thing I can do is get a rough idea on average daily usage for the month and put this into the missing days for the customer. Guess this is going to be closer than nothing at all...

Actual problem has been fixed and all is working, but past stats are still missing.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get past logs that were rotated back and into webalizer?

I don't know how you can get them into webalizer, but you shoud still be able to process them using Awstats, if that's any help

How would you suggest doing that?

Never used awstats before. Is it simply a matter of installing and it will find the logs and process them or do I have to tell it which logs I require processed?

Basically download and install it for the virtual site you have the problems with.
You will need to tell it where the logs are, but the instructions are quite clear.
Then run it to process the stats and voila!
The first time you run it expect it to take quite some time and to use a lot of CPU etc., but the end results are good, so it's probably worth the effort.

Ok, now I think I should go back to newbie status.

Anyone have any ideas where the logs for a particular site are on the cobalt raq4?

have installed awstats and need to configure so that it analyses all past logs that have been split, rotated and analysed already by webalyser (or not analysed by webaliser hence the problem with the stats)

Thanks for help.

SSH into the RAQ and have a look in:
/home/sites/www.thesite.xxx/logs

Ok, got awstats running fine.

Only trouble is, as I thought, I can only find log files for last couple of days.

This I guess is due to them being rotated.

Does rotation mean deleting logs? Or are they stored somewhere (please I hope so)

If they are deleted I am screwed on this one, but if they are stored somewhere, can anyone please tell me where they are.

Also, does anyone know how to update old records into awstats?

I ran the update program on the previous log to the current one for the site, and it ran fine except it said they were old records and didn't update the data for viewing.

Thanks for any help.
