Volt.Networks 01-04-2009, 02:59 AM Where are you backup servers located and do you have the cPanel plugin?
KarlZimmer 01-04-2009, 04:11 AM Backup servers are in Chicago and yes, the control panel modules are included at no additional charge with the per server licensing.
So when you say you are offering R1soft client license free, do you mean to say I do not need to pay for "R1Soft CDP Client - $10 per month per additional server"?
What about "MySQL Backup Client"?
Besides that, what if we have multiple servers?

Yes, the first R1Soft CDP Client is free. You can add additional servers to the account for $10 a month each. MySQL is $5 a month each.
ubuzz 01-04-2009, 06:33 PM When does this offer end?
KarlZimmer 01-05-2009, 04:31 AM Right now, there is no immediate plan for an end. it is good through at least the end of the month, and we'll consider continuing it again at that point.
UH-Bobby 01-05-2009, 09:06 AM Those are really good prices! I've already placed an order.
I do have a question though Karl, about the order process. I submitted it, I want pay via Paypal, and it's saying 34.95 instead of 24.95. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and pay it as is, or wait. I've sent you a PM regarding that.
Thanks!

An updated invoice will be sent for the correct amount once the order is processed.
ramdak5000 01-24-2009, 11:11 AM I have some questions that I hope you can clarify:
Supposing I want to back up one VPS that has 15GB capacity, which plan do you think I should sign up for?
Do I then need to separately sign up for MySQL server backup?
Will signing up for a plan give each one of my hosting clients the ability to manage their own back ups through their cPanel control panel, including their MySQL databases?
At the moment, R1Soft seems to have a few issues backing up over a WAN, with the performance supposedly degrading as the distance between the servers and the remote backup servers increases. My VPS is hosted in a data centre in Virginia. Is that close to where your data centres providing R1Soft back ups are hosted?
Do your plans include the ability to do bare metal restores (although my host has been good enough that I have never required this kind of a restore)?
Thanks in advance.

The quick answer is that this will not work with most VPS accounts, as the client software requires the installation of a kernel module.
To answer your other questions though, if you're using 15GB of data, you'd probably just need the 20 GB plan, depending how much your data changes, etc. If you ever do need to upgrade, it's only an email away.
The MySQL backups are done as a part of the same account. If you don't get the MySQL module it will just backup the raw database files whereas the MySQL module takes further actions to help assure better database consistency, etc. and more complete management of the databases individually.
Yes, with the control panel modules your users will be able to restore things themselves.
The distance thing is going to be an issue with any off-site backup solution. The further away you get the higher the latency, the lower the transfer speeds, etc. It is not really any worse with R1soft than using say rsync. Note: We are located in Chicago.
Yes, you are able to do the bare metal restores. If your server isn't in our DC you'd need to make sure that you can load the media to run their bare metal restore software. Inside our facility we have it directly available for PXE boot.
ramdak5000 01-25-2009, 07:14 AM Thank you for answering all my questions. The VPS thing seems to be a deal-breaker, sadly.

Just for the record I am backing up a few systems I have at caro.net using this solution from steadfast and have no issues at all so I am not sure what the issues they have backing up over a WAN are but I am not seeing any at all.
