ATT.com and Star*Gate.com both in early 1986. There was no fee for registrations back then.

You know, I read back years ago that the first domain registered was www.com. Not sure if that is true, I am apt to not believe it given that I thought that world wide web was a term that came about sometime in the early 90's.
I think I read that tidbit on www.www.com, before they became a crappy free mail portal site.

From: http://urlbay.com/domnews.htm (a source I couldn't rightly tell you anything about and thus couldn't tell you if it were true, just that I've read it many places) ...
Who registered first 10 domain names?
On March 15, 1985, Symbolics Technology Inc. registered the first Domain Name: symbolics.com.
Domain Names two through 10 were registered by BBN Corporation (bbn.com), Carnegie-Mellon
University (cmu.edu) , Purdue University (purdue.edu), Rice University (rice.edu), the University of
California at Berkeley (berkeley.edu), the University of California-Los Angeles (ucla.edu), Rutgers
University (rutgers.edu), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (mit.edu), and Thinking Machines
Corporation (think.com).
