![]() | View Full Version : 1000 GB SPACE by $4/m.... unbelievable ? waturl 12-29-2008, 07:45 AM I come to see this offer at hostrocket, any body can believe this ? 040Hosting 12-29-2008, 07:53 AM It seems you already have your doubts; of course this is not possible, i am sure they have some nice small letters in their terms of service; or else try to upload 1TB of data to their server and see if it works ;) if it does, you have cheap storage :D JLHC 12-29-2008, 07:57 AM Unfortunately many clients believe that they can really use all the space provided by these mass oversellers. Some got suspended due to TOS violation while others are forced to upgrade to higher platforms, eg. VPS and/or dedicated server. waturl 12-29-2008, 08:13 AM So, Why they do like publishing that type of offers, that means, they lie.. right ? JLHC 12-29-2008, 08:31 AM I would say that it is their dishonest marketing tactic. You will need a dedicated server to have that amount of space. SiberForum 12-29-2008, 08:40 AM I have never seen huge dedicated server (1000Gb storage) with reseller web hosting prices. I suppose that is kind of joke??? waturl 12-29-2008, 09:12 AM Joke, let laugth, hihihi. Well, I don't need a dedicated server, and i don't recommand that space, i just wanted to ask about that offer. Thanks darkeden 12-29-2008, 08:23 PM i found one 8 dollars a month offering 10tb space and bandiwith I laughed my butt off PCS-Chris 12-29-2008, 09:01 PM I come to see this offer at hostrocket, any body can believe this ? It's nothing new really, tons of hosting providers have been offering Unlimited this, and Unlimited that for years. What makes offering crazy amounts of space for low cost, any different? In most cases it is technically lying as customers will breach TOS before being able to use all the space. In terms of marketing I suppose it works for the average user, as they go by comparing specs of different providers. Chris. HostLeet 12-29-2008, 09:35 PM It's just sad that so many hosts are doing this marketing tactic that the rest are forced to either join in, or struggle more trying to get customers to sign up with them. :( dhcart 12-29-2008, 10:03 PM Actually this is a big overselling or lie advertising. Most hosting providers do that. Thay have many limitations on their tos most likely. For example there may a file size limit that can be upload. I recommend stay away from hosting providers that made too many overselling. ldcdc 12-29-2008, 10:18 PM It's nothing new really, tons of hosting providers have been offering Unlimited this, and Unlimited that for years. Well, the dynamic of that was much more subdued in the reseller hosting market (aside from ebay and kiddy hosts). If an old and seasoned provider like Hostrocket offers something like this, while it may be berated now, it may be a sign of things to come. How sustainable this is, given that customers are allowed to reseller this space, is anyone's guess. Most people I know around here would be quite skeptical. Then again, Dreamhost has been overselling quite heavily for a long while now, and allowed reselling off its shared hosting accounts; but limited such use through things like no branding capabilities, one account per customer etc., which I don't see at HostRocket. RSkeens 12-29-2008, 10:19 PM As a consumer, do you believe this offer more to unlimited? The funny thing is I believe people are more willing to accept "unlimited" over those offers, for some obscure reason. waturl 12-30-2008, 06:37 AM I don't believe those offers, but there are who believe. ninak 01-01-2009, 02:57 AM Yes unfortunatley there are people that believe these outrageous figures. Some have even emailed our sales department asking why we don't offer them. AquariusStorage 01-01-2009, 03:03 AM I think it's a lot more dishonest to advertise some obscene high amount of bandwidth / space then just simply saying "Unlimited". Consumers are starting to catch on that "unlimited" is purely marketing, however these obscene high bandwidth/space providers are sometimes able to fool more people. Lets try to put this into perspective this this is an outrages deal and those figures are total BS. Liquidweb.com, a managed dedicated service provider... there cheapest server with 1TB (1000gb of space) is $259. Taking into account that they are a "premium provider", however lets think realistically about this. $259 minus $4 is 255. That is a $255 loss per customer. That host can't profit, and if they are honestly offering that package.... they would be out of business by.... tomorrow? Jacob Wall 01-01-2009, 03:45 AM Yes unfortunatley there are people that believe these outrageous figures. Some have even emailed our sales department asking why we don't offer them. I can't tell you how many times I've been told "Your host is stupid, why don't you give us like 1TB of storage" or "Dude, your stupid cause you don't have unlimited storage" What I find funny, is most people don't use but maybe .1% of their resources. RandyE 01-02-2009, 08:54 PM The good old "You're dumb, I'm Smart". We have a saying here - "Cine zice ala e". "He who says - is." I knew there was something you Canadians did right :D j/k I lost about 3 people on Thursday due to this, about 8 people Friday, and so far today, 5 people have submitted a presales ticket to request a quote on unlimited/unmetered. Then they get all mad, and I let them know when their server is down 3 weeks out of the month and they get sick of it, I'll still be here. Or I say when your host goes puff and is gone in a month, I'll still be here lol. EasycPanelXL 01-03-2009, 12:24 AM With Hosting packages, what ever, a host can say whatever they want now days. Some companies do this for a Living, like myself, so cut the industry some slack. But when It comes down to reseller plans, there should be a realistic limit, at least that is what I think. |
