View Full Version : Strange WHM login problem

Out of the blue, I seem to have a problem logging in to WHM. I have tried it in multiple browsers and I get the same result. And this occurs with both 2086 and 2087.
When I point to WHM, I get the login window, NP. I enter username/password. When I click to login, it just shows a white page, and the browser just seems to hang forever, and then lock up. The only difference between 2086 and 2087 is that 2087 asks me to accept the SSL cert). When I then try to do anything in the browser (refresh, Back button, etc), I get the (Not responding) message in the title bar. Seemingly, the only way out at this point is via Task Manager.
I have reported this to my host but when he tries, he gets in OK, so we can only assume this is a local issue.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
I'm not sure what the problem is. But you can be 100% confident this is a local issue if this demo doesn't work for you:
http://www.cpanel.net/products/cpwhm/try_cp_whm.htm
Try it out and see what that gives.

Nope, I could login to those sample control panels just fine. :(

Did you try SSL? https://demo.cpanel.net:2087/
Anyway, if you're able to login fine to the demo pages but not to your host, I recommend you try to resolve this with your host. If all else fails, pack your data and move (there's nothing wrong with it frankly). Plus, would you want to host with a provider that is not willing to listen and resolve issues?

This on a dedicated, VPS, shared or what, Vito? I experienced this on a VPS not long ago where it was exhausting all the available RAM (didn't have enough on the VPS) so it couldn't process the various startup scripts. Half the time in WHM it would load the top and middle frame, but not the left one...or I'd get a totally white page.

Thanks for the feedback, but I think you misunderstood. My host tried to login to my WHM and was able to do so successfully. I am only unable to do it locally, which suggests a local issue. Why would I change hosts if it is a local issue? He can't fix the problem, I need to figure it out locally.
BTW, I have been with www.prioritycolo.com for 7 years now and Myles et al have never let me down. I'm one of the lucky ones to have found a "good one" and would be foolish to leave such a quality host. ;)

Hey bear:
I'm on a dedicated server.
I don't think this has anything to do with it, but my main site home page (demodemo) was hacked by some scumbag 2 days ago. I replaced the index.html and all seems fine now. But could the two be possibly related?

Perhaps the "hacker" put some sort of block on your IP Address, to prevent you logging in again? Just an idea.
Have you tried connecting from a) a different web browser b) a different computer or c) a different internet connection? Those three things will surely help you alot in finding the real problem - good luck! :)

It appeared to me at some point that you were able to login to cPanel's demo WHM, which to me implied that it is not a local issue. In my previous post, I recommended that you work this issue out with your host first. And I apologize if I appeared blunt in suggesting that you look elsewhere. But I'd personally do the same if the provider isn't willing to work things out with me (you're on WHT asking for advise after all).

Glad you feel you are in good hands. Fyi, prior to your last post I was under the impression you were on shared hosting hence my post would not be subject to any conflict of interest vis-a-vis to my suggestion. I usually post on WHT to help out as opposed to advertise (feel free to lookup my posts on my profile)

What he *really* needs to do is test from another browser/laptop/local PC :). If a base install of WHM is crashing your PC/browser, but not others testing it, it's fair to call it a local issue :).
Vito's on WHT, because he knows how to handle himself (read: he asks if we can see a problem, we look into it, say we see nothing wrong, and he's out searching for his fix, until he finds it, or gives up and asks for some more help).
(On that note, we didn't check firewall rule-sets incidentally, but that *shouldn't* be able to crash your local PC browser)

Thanks, ST-Mike. I tried it on my laptop and it worked. Interesting. When I first logged in, it gave me a welcome screen saying I have just upgraded to v11.24.2. I then tried logging in on my desktop was able to get in OK. Whatever it was seems to have fixed itself.
UNIXy, no worries. I took no offense to your post. I just wanted to make sure you understood that I am very happy with prioritycolo. As I said, he has [/b]never[/b] let me down. Would that all web hosts rose to his level, it'd be a mighty happy world. :)
Cheers.
