What would be the best method to create a site where users can freely input information such as a forum, but allow searching for large text strings, such as MD5 hashes. Seems most forums do not allow the searching of long strings and being able to search a MD5 hash is important.

Why not get an open source forum and edit the appropriate search code for your needs. Seems the easiest option :)
