What is the best server monitoring software? Pingdom? I know its great, but anything that is second of it?

Alertra is also excellent, but not cheap at all.
I've been using Pingdom for a while now, no problems whatsoever.
What are you looking for in particular that Pingdom doesn't provide?

Nah, I'm just curious what are the other popular and reliable ones. No false reports, that suck. HyperSpin seems to be great and their reviews seems positive.

HyperSpin is pretty good too, but again a bit pricier than Pingdom, even if you have reseller account and sell it to yourself. I like Pingdom because they charge on number of monitors, and it doesn't matter if its 1min interval or 10min interval. With Hyperspin, I would pay a lot more to have 1min interval monitoring.

Yes its a little bit pricier.. But well, I guess trying out both may be good? Lol

We use panopta and are quite happy with it. It charges based on services checked and all are 1 minute intervals.

That brand sounds foreign to me..

It got it's name from some greek god I think, but it works well. And you can have a completely customized status page that looks integrated with your design. I haven't found another where you can customize that much.

No idea about them too.. Do they give false reports?

I have to agree with Scott. We've been using Panopta for a few months now and no, I've yet to receive a false report of an outage. Their based in Chicago, right around the corner from us, which is always a nice perk. :)

From what I see Pingdom seems to be cheap and reliable. Just curious if they have any false alarms before?

Here are some Pingdom threads that might interest you, assuming of course you haven't already read them :)

We've never received 1 false outage, something I can't say about any of the others. The reports are simple and the member center is very easy to use, while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly feel. Give them a try and you'll see why we've been using them for over a year.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=586315I had participate in one of those threads before. However, my guess will be that the false report is false as other monitors gave the false report instead, and Pingdom had found the small little tiny problem that others did not..
