Ok, anyway...

I WOULD have searched for what I'm asking, but I'm not sure what to call it. =P

What I'm thinking of doing is buying/leasing a server from a company, and having it hooked up to their backbone. A buddy of mine told me about this, and I've heard of it being done before. If you could, would you be able to tell me what this is called, about how much does it cost, and if you know of any companies that do it. Thank you very much =)

It is called a dedicated server.

If you buy the server from somewhere else, and get it hooked to the backbone via another company, it's called CoLocation :).

I think that I forgot to say that I would like to have the server in MY home office, where essentially, I own the server, but I am paying them for the hook-up to their backbone. =)

Then you basically need a T-1 or better to that companies facilities. It will probably be cheaper for you if you colocated there and just had a DSL line to do the maintenance.

What do you want to use the server for? I would say at the least get a fractional t1, but DSL may work for you.

Fornicator, answer depends on the server purpose and average load. For some projects ISDN or xDSL is enough, while other require multiple T1s...
