regarding domain
hi friends ,
While gathering information I came to know that the registered domain is valid for only one year after that you have to buy it again, can you please let me know that is there any way so I can buy it permanently.
MikeDVB 12-18-2008, 02:27 AM There is no way that I am aware of to register a domain name indefinitely other than paying to register it for 20+ years which would be 20*yearly cost.
As an example, Microsoft.com expires on 2014-05-03.

Shaun [WhirlHost] 12-18-2008, 02:27 AM You can't buy a domain name for a lifetime (that I know of), however you can buy it for a number of years so that you don't have to renew it every year.

I know that my country's tld comes with a one time fee (though they retain the right to start changing a maintenance fee at some point in the future).

Can you describe it more...
ldcdc 12-18-2008, 03:47 AM I mean that there's more out there than just the .com domains, and their pricing can be different, including a one time fee. But for .com .net .org, you've got no other option than to pay for each year that you "own" the domain.

hostingcoupon 12-18-2008, 07:22 AM You can renew it, before last date of expire
HostColor 12-18-2008, 09:49 AM Technically you can not own a domain name you can get it leased for as many years as you pay it. People use to say that domains are property. Domain however are more like rent. Of course you can sign up for 10 years. Honestly companies that own domain names think of them as their own.
A good idea is to register trade mark and it will guarantee the ownership over the domain name... or at least will make very hard for someone else to obtain it.

Anasule 12-18-2008, 10:04 AM The best way to do this is to register the domain name for ten years.
Also remember to keep the whois information correct and watch out for letters from nominet you need to open them go to the nominet site and enter the code to confirm the details of the domain are correct.

Indeed. 10 year registrations are great, and watch that WHOIS contact information! Some people have been able to launch successful complaints based on invalid contact information.

No. Not even with Network Solution's so-called 100 years registration, which is more a gimmick.

Domains can only be registered or renewed for up to 10 years at a time. And 2014 is only ... like a little more than 5 years away?

Red Squirrel 12-19-2008, 09:26 PM You have to pay per year but in reality domain costs are not that high compared to other services out there so to me it's worth to go ahead and renew for 5-10 years. Not sure if it's true or not but aparantly domains that expire later in the future are given higher rank by search engines so it's one good reason to do it. (maybe someone can confirm this)
I tend to be at least 2 years ahead that way I'm sure to never let a domain expire. Like when I register a new domain but I'm not 100% sure if I'll go ahead with it, I go 1 year, then when I do in fact end up using it I go ahead and go renew it for 1-2 years.
I went overboard on iceteks.net though. (expires 2018). I don't think you can go higher then 10 years at a time though so that's probably the max I can get that one at.
