So i told him to contact paypal for a refund. Did I do the right thing? :(
peteny 09-14-2002, 04:03 PM What can you do? Nothing wrong with that.. You could have gave them the direct email of the person you've bought it off of.. It wasn't right for him to leave you with his headaches..
Darth 09-14-2002, 04:07 PM So they can't take any legal action against me?
prosayist 09-14-2002, 04:11 PM I don't see how.. maxfrag made a deal with you, maxfrag evidently made a deal with the guy that emailed ya, if a deal was broken it was between maxfrag and that other guy (nothing to do with you)

Chicken 09-14-2002, 04:17 PM From your post, am I understanding it correctly that you bought a domain? Did you buy a company, take over a company, etc., and the domain came with that? You need to be a bit more specific as to what exactly happened.
SoftWareRevue 09-14-2002, 04:17 PM Well, I would certainly take action towards the company. If I brought something from a company, it wouldn't matter much who owned it. ;)
Darth 09-14-2002, 04:20 PM I was told by the owner all clients were refunded...
SoftWareRevue 09-14-2002, 04:22 PM That doesn't answer Chickens' question.
It's pretty important. I assumed that you purchased a company. It looks like others assumed that you purchased a domain name.
Which is it?
Darth 09-14-2002, 04:25 PM I bought the domain, hosting, and the design and they had 0 clients.
interactive 09-15-2002, 01:11 AM i would tell him to contact whatever the dude's name was oyu bougth it from or paypal...so ya you did the right thing.
Mellowman 09-15-2002, 03:43 AM Darth...
Your dealings in this and other areas are a mixture of hobby interest and aspiring entreprenuerial spirit...
Sometimes it's just too easy to do deals, and set up domains that have a commercial potential and a very real legal responsibility. Did you have a written agreement? Have you kept all emails from the previous owner, and are his contact details traceable?
Your age will also have a bearing on your and the previous owner's legal responsibilities - is he also under 18?
I would suggest you enlist the services of a lawyer/solicitor who will be sympathetic to some of the legal problems caused by doing business on the internet - there's one just down the road from you who I can recommend if you want further details.
I had cause to use him when an eBay deal went pear-chaped and the seller claimed to be under 16 to avoid any legal responsibility.
Then there's the new EU distance selling directive that applies to e-commerce sites!
Hope it all works out ok
Darth 09-15-2002, 08:24 AM Nope wasn't a written agreement
Darth 09-15-2002, 08:25 AM All I did was bought the hosting/design and the domain. So I didn't buy the company.
Darth 09-15-2002, 09:20 AM yay the ex owner is going to sort it out :)
Tony| 05-23-2009, 08:55 PM Just so everyone here is aware, maxfrag.net recently purchased the domain maxfrag.co.uk. We are not associated with the company spoken in this thread.
Outlaw Web Master 05-23-2009, 09:24 PM thanks for the update.

RajanUrs 05-24-2009, 05:18 AM thanks for the archeological digup :)
