I recommend you spend a lot of time getting clued up on web hosting terminology and various features. Are you in the industry to make a quick buck or do you genuinely enjoy working long and hard with these kinds of things for quite some time until you make any profit?

web design != web hosting. They dont take the same type of skill sets. Sounds like your not even a web designer yet. I would highly recommend taking RSkeens advice and studying up on the web hosting market and learning how it works before even considering starting a business in it.

How much research have you done? Have you written a business plan? Do you have sufficient financial resources to sustain losses in your first year? How do you intend to market and support your business?
You need to be realistic. This is a business with a lot of competition - that requires certain skill sets (IT and business) to sustain growth and earn net profits.
I do wish you the best.

As others have said, if you're studying to become a web designer, starting your own hosting business isn't exactly a part of that process.

It can be. Or it may make more sense for the OP to become an affiliate instead of a reseller.

Hi hostaking.
You might want to follow the others advices for now. Do more research in the industry before you make the next move. If you really want to start web hosting, well you could offer it to your client, who you design website for. That would be a good start but of course, you still need to have knowledge on it.

This would also keep the OP from risking his own reputation (to some degree) if anything goes wrong with the web hosting.

Yep: "Oh, Host X isn't working out for you? No problem, I've been hearing good things about Host Y, and I have some other clients with them. Let's move you..."

I think just the way you posted the question it does not sound like you have the experience to run a host quite yet, you need to learn about hosting, maybe work for another host low down and let them train you more, but how will you have time if you want to do web design also? It is a very time consuming project before i sold my old hosting company i put 10-14 hours a day at least into getting started on site designs, plans, staffing, and i lost thousands of dollars before i made a cent, slowly i had more and more clients and was making money after about a year and a half, its not an easy buisness

Not to mention--with ZERO economic profit along the way in the long run. I'd steer away from entering this business if I were you.
