Do you lie about having a datacenter?

Hello,
I see so many small companies giving information that seems like it was copied and pasted off another website. Do you lie and make up a datacenter, or do you do what I do and tell people the truth. I buy dedicated servers from Limestone Network. Can I make up a D.C so people would sound more interested in my services?
Hmm.. Looking forward to replies. Anyone else see this as well?

I don't see a reason for you to lie about this. Your clients will not be impressed by this, especially when they found out that you are lying.
Just let them know that the servers are hosted at the LimeStoneNetworks facility. I don't see a problem in that. Why would you?

No I totally agree with you, I'm saying I've seen smaller companies websites that give details about a D.C when fact is, they don't even have one. The lease dedicate servers like I do. I'm proud to say I'm served by LSN and so are just about all our customers.

Actually it is not wrong to give details on the DC the servers are placed. However, it is definitely wrong for some providers to state that they own the DC.

Alright, at least I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Lying is a bad habit!
While advertising where you get your box from, and better if it is from a reputable DC, you will get another 'plus' too!

Unfortunately many hosts DO lie about this and majority of clients will never know the difference. Just a part of the hosting world I guess.
I generally just copy/paste details from the DC's website and provide a blurb in front of that on our website linking to the DC we're in.

Saying what? That it's your DC or you have servers hosted at that DC.

IMO, I will just put the location it is from, not saying anything else unless somebody asked, reply them honestly.

I agree with the honest approach. You start lieing you'll eventually get caught, and then your companys PR (Not SEO PR, Public Rating) will go down, as all those people that know will tell other, and they will tell others, etc. etc. Best thing is to be honest. I tell people if they ask that at the moment I am a reseller. I will not say who I'm resold with unless they have a valid reason for wondering. I let them know that I am currently on a reseller package, but when I start getting enough money coming in I will be moving over to a dedicated server. Plus, you lie, then you have to remember all the lies

People who lie get busted! When you do any reputation you have will be in tatters!
We tell people where our servers are located i.e. state of the art data center in Maidnehead, UK. At no stage do we say or imply that we own the data center.

We won't claim to own our own datacenter. We don't, and because we use servers in a server farm, the costs for utilities, security, real estate and more are divided up between thousands of servers, not just our 3. And we can pass the savings along to our customers.
We do, however, own our own Network Operations Center here in Chicago, but that's another question. <G>
