Dedicated Game Server?

Hi! Our clan has at the moment rented game "server" from gameservers for cod 5. we are not satisfied whit it and we would like cod 4 server too. so i was thinking is dedicated server right answer for us? I have checked leasweb offers and was wondering what kind of hardware we will need to run one cod 5 server whit 30 slots and one cod 4 server whit 30 slots. And what a bout the os?

Linux would use less resources.

Some game server providers offer dedicated servers that include a game server control panel and the ability to host any game server. For instance, if you had a dedicated server with a company such as Gameservers, it would enable you to host both UNRANKED and RANKED Battlefield 2 servers (or any ranked game). If you decide to purchase a dedicated server I would recommend either using Windows with TCAdmin or Linux with Mono + TCAdmin. You'll also want to make sure that the server can handle the game(s) you are going to put on it. I would recommend looking into either a dual core server or a quad core server, depending on what you would like to run. I would also recommend using at least 1-2GB RAM.
I hope I've helped in some way.

If you're looking to run just two servers, then you won't need anything terribly special. A basic dual-core processor with at least 2GB of memory will get you by, 4GB would be ideal. COD tends to be a memory hog, keep that in mind.
If you and you clan are looking to expand at any point, it may be a wise investment to go with a quad-core solution that way you have plenty of room for new servers if you need them. Make sure whoever you choose to get the server from runs a solid, stable network.

I assume it would be High Pings / Lag?

I've never seen a performance increase when having a dedicated server.

Um.. When you have a better Computer / Server Box, you will get better Performance, if your running, say from a Computer, the Performance will not be as good as a Dedicated Server. It would not be using all the resources that a Computer is using. Have you ever played on a server that was hosted via a PC, and looked at the pings (Probably averaged around 120ms) while on a dedicated server, it would average around 20ms (Depending on the Quality of the server)

A dedicated server for gameservers will cost you ~$150, a 30 slot CoD server will cost you <$30, so 2 x 30 slot CoD gameserver = 1/2 the price of a dedi. Don't bother.

Unless the files have been ported since release there is no official COD5 linux release, you're right.
