jawadk 12-13-2008, 12:08 PM Please explain Domain Registeration process...
hi all,
I am new in this business, (in fact I am even not IN yet) I am looking to buy a reseller hosting account. But have a question that i would like anyone of you to answer....
Q) What happens when i get a new client ? Client pays me the money for hosting package , I understand that I will have to manage the disk space for that purpose but what about the domain registration? The company I am going to get the reseller account from, is providing me a free domain , which i am going to use for my own Hosting Website! I just want to know what will be the procedure to register for more domains? My hosting provider says i will have to pay them for each domain my client registers, is it really how the reselling business going around the world???? Do every reseller has to pay the actual company for every new domain?
garysimat 12-13-2008, 12:22 PM the domain registration you can automate depending what billing software you use. If you setup an account with Enom generally most webhost billing software out there integrates. you can also automate the account creation and basically every part of the setup/order process.
The manual way you would need to order the domain from a registrar, set the nameservers to your nameservers, then setup the account on your server.
I would go with the auotmation

Everybody pays for domains. Even the "free" domain you got was actually paid for by your provider.

Yes, every domain has to be paid for with virtually every company.

LaneHost 12-15-2008, 09:21 PM Yes, the client would pay you for the domain they ordered from you.
To accomplish this on your end, you will need a domain reseller account. garysimat, brought up eNom which is very popular registrar to resell domains from and works with quite a few billing systems. Another popular one is DirectI/ResellerClub.
Some reseller web hosting providers can offer you a free domain reseller account allowing you to resell domains to your customers. I would recommend checking the Reseller Hosting Offers section for providers that can offer this.
Every domain ordered does need to be purchased weather you choose to offer one for free or for sale. In regards to for sale, you would mark up what ever you get the domains through your domain reseller account.
Good luck with everything!

SiberForum 12-16-2008, 07:29 AM Domain name registration is paid service and you provide the same paid service for your customers. You can be domain name reseller where t\you get domain names at one price form domain name registrar and sell with another. And difference is your income.

RandyE 12-23-2008, 01:23 PM I use name cheap, they don't require you to maintain any kind of balance and they don't have set up fees or anything like that.

kjetterman 12-23-2008, 01:29 PM Some reseller accounts come with a free domain reseller account. I believe you can buy domain names at a discounted price and then sell them to your clients.
Alternatively... you can refer your clients to a reputable domain name seller and have them purchase their name or you can do it for them sans domain name reseller account.

Most providers will give you a domain reseller account from where you will be able to purchase domains for your clients at a discounted rate. Integrate that with a billing system and you will be able to sell domains from your site to your users.
