View Full Version : How Friday the 13th Struck Me...

Heading to work Friday afternoon since I'm a temporary weekend employee for DST in Kansas City, when I was involved in a car accident.

I wasn't hit, but I think I had a part in the accident. I was in the far left lane northbound I-35 that was going to merge into 635 for those who are familar with Kansas City highways, when I saw an opportunity to get into the faster moving lane to my immediate right. I did change lanes successfully and proceeded to speed up match traffic speed, but then to my dismay a red passenger car cut out in front of me so I swerved into the next right lane to avoid a collision.

Although I do not know exactly what all happened behind me because I was focused on not hitting the car ahead of me, a women in the green car swerved to her right to avoid me and smashed the left side of a mini-van. I can only see debris flying off the cars out of the corner of my eye so I knew I better stop. After roughly 45 minutes on the highway with the police filling out forms and asking each of us our stories, he let me go on my way since my car took no damage.

Now I am not sure if I am financially responsible, again, I do not know exactly what happened behind me before the crash. The trooper thanked me for stopping, although whoever was in the red car did not. He said he's going to send the claims to the insurance companies, no one to my knowledge was issued a ticket. On my form it only said Witness Report. So...hmmm, I don't know what's going to happen. Despite the accident, everyone kind of chuckled a bit when I mentioned it was Friday the 13th that day.

Well, you're not responsible. If they find the Red car that swerved infront of you and the people involved in the accident want to press charges (you never know) then you would be brought in as a witness. beyond that you're home free. :D
Kudos for stopping. Not many people do if there car isn't damaged and in this case I think it saved you a lot of grief with the police investigation.

I had a bad Friday the 13th as well...

6 A.M I leave for work. Its only 5 mins from my house, but I get there and its closed. Now my boss is very punctual, this had never happened before. So I wait for 2 hours until finally he showed up. Apparently he was involved in a car accident, (not in Kansas). Very Minor however they had to tow his car.

So i'm tired from waiting for 2 hours only to find a flood of emails on my computer all from disgruntled customers who's sites were down because of a huge network failure at the DC. So instead of tending to sales requests and other important matters I sat at my computer and wrote emails all day explaining the problem and how our uptime guarantee worked. Very time consuming.

So after a hard day of typing I go home and find out a friend of mine whom I haven't seen in 3 years is in town. :D I was very excited, it looked like my day wasn't in ruins after all.
Turns out 54-40 is playing in town!! For 5 Bucks!! I was ecstatic! Well i invite my friend along and tell her to meet me at the entrance to the concert. Well time passes - I wait until the gates close but I couldn't find her.

Problem with this concert was once you were in you couldn't go back out and in again?? Ya strange. So instead of enjoying the concert I walked around and tried looking for her. Well this took up most of my night - as well as trying to find a phone. There were none.

So nearing the end of the show I met up with some of my college aquaintences, however me being not a crazed party animal felt somewhat out of place. So the concert ends, and I go to my car only to find a $25 parking ticket, I try and find a phone to call her cell. Find One! :) however i don't have enough change because the call I made was long distance - $2 for 1min. So this just really sux, I go home and phone from there. She picks up her phone and she is still at home because her car wouldn't start. Damaged fuel pump I think. So i never did get to see her. :(

So that was my day... I came home only to answer more emails and go to bed a 3AM.

Ya, bummer day. But that just made this ordinary and boring day seem just that much more special. :)

Be happy your car didn't suffer damage, otherwise you would be the only one at fault (if your luck is as bad as mine.)

I was driving along, got cut off by a car and I swerved to miss her. This caused me to hit another vehicle - a parked vehicle. The lady in the red car that cut me off pulls over, apologizes, she doesn't know what to do.

Police never come - she goes to work. I am left with damaged car, no damage to hers.

Few months later I get my court date because the insurance companies tell me they won't do a thing for me. So, I wait for a letter in the mail from teh court to tell me when to go - it never comes, instead I get a letter telling me I didn't go to court and therefor lost. Huh...

I persisted - got another courtdate, they changed the date and forgot to tell me though, when I got to court on my date they told me I already lost the week earlier.

That's where I gave up on the Canadian Legal System - it is very important in Canada to take things into your own hands. If you get in an accident make sure you damage someone elses car. Perhaps the insurance companies want it that way....

My day was bad as well. The waitress at the restaurant brought me Diet Coke instead of regular. Oh the nerve!
