View Full Version : Essentials for Travel Site
Suspended 4th 12-11-2008, 08:48 AM Essentials for Travel Site
Hi all,
I am building a travel site. The site includes the map of the city, the public transport map, the places to visit, the prominent hotels n their addresses.
What else can I include in the site? Suggestion will be highly appreciated. Also is there any good theme for wordpress available for a travel site. Right now I am using pixeleted, something on same lines is preferred.
Thanks,
bager 12-11-2008, 09:25 AM I don't see any maps on your site. Use google maps there are free.

The link in post liks to the theme I am using.
maniakaz 12-11-2008, 10:15 AM I recall Lithuanian map server (may provide link if it's not against the rules). They have interactive maps - both map and view from satellite; user has an option to calculate distance from the closiest public transportation station, mark wi-fi spots, hotels, embassies etc.
So, you may wish to add foreign embassies (if any are present in the town) as well as wi-fi spots (unless wi-fi is very wide
spread: in such case, free wi-fi spots would be good).
Map should be interactive: if I click on a cathedral, I may wish to find its photo as well as essential info (entry fee if any, basic dates etc); if I click on embassy, I expect flag, coat of arms and text in English language as well as in that country language.
route planning would be great, I think.
Just my 2 cents

Carol_Ferndale 12-17-2008, 07:47 AM You could also list places to go for a good night out, along with what the venues have to offer in terms of music, drinks, food and ambience. Mention the good cafes and restaurants. If you want to you could even mention child-friendly places for families. You could mention things that are free. You could give an overview of a town or city, saying what sort of place it is and why people go there.

Mike - Limestone 12-17-2008, 06:08 PM Definitely recommend places for music, food, and drinks, as telegraph_hill mentioned. Perhaps have a niche such as "budget travel" or the like?
Don't forget a hostel listing, if you can find available hostels. That seems to be a growing trend in travel.

Carol_Ferndale 12-17-2008, 07:26 PM Yes, I think with the credit crunch and the recession, hostels could be becoming increasingly popular, as could budget travel generally.
I get a lot of press releases from companies that offer luxury travel, but I am feeling more and more that to talk about luxury travel is not that appropriate, because it is becoming so out of reach for a lot of people.
