JcLusso 12-10-2008, 01:25 AM What is the best billing system? WHMCS? PleskBilling?
Hey All,
Just wanted to know what all of you thought was the best billing system. Also what are somethings you guys would like to see in one of these billing systems that is not already in them? Just wanted to see what people liked and disliked aswell as what they thought would make the system better. Thanks for all your input.
Jarrett Maybe a new billing system will emerge within the coming months?

Matt - Kerplunc 12-10-2008, 03:01 AM I definitely think that WHMCS is the best. It's cheap and it works really well. And you can purchase a owned license

gibbs_h 12-10-2008, 04:44 AM Yeah, WHMCS is best billing software, you can also try modernbill but its not much advance like WHMCS
Mike - Limestone 12-10-2008, 09:34 AM I personally like Ubersmith for billing. It's a pretty solid product.

linux-tech 12-10-2008, 10:30 AM In 6 years, I've run through most of the major billing setups, in an effort to find the one that works (for me).
WHMCS is good, but Matt takes a bit too lax approach to security. The flexibility of WHMCS really can't be matched anywhere.
PleskBilling (I'm assuming that's what they're calling ModernBill, now?) is complicated as all hell to learn and understand. The #1 complaint is user operations.
Ubersmith, I wouldn't trust with my life. These people can't make up their minds as to whether or not to support php5, the development is incredibly slow, and it's just way overpriced for the services it provides.
AWBS, stay away from completely. The staff are a bunch of inept individuals who blame the client for their problems, instead of addressing them. These people are the ONLY people in 6 years who have corrupted a database , then tried to blame ME for doing it. Bad, bad support
ClientExec, I have spent little time with it, wasn't at all impressed with the system
There's others out there that I've tried, just can't for the life of me recall the name of them. If you're after a serious application, you'll probably want to go with WHMCS and customize it to your needs.

RSkeens 12-10-2008, 10:38 AM Now that WHMCS should soon be supporting multiple currencies (something that has been overdue for years), gets my seal of approval for being top notch.
I'm still waiting for the feature, but I'm sure Matt will live up to his word of implementing it very soon.

Personally, I think Ubersmith is very powerful and provides exactly the features needed. The support is also excellent - I have yet to find another billing system that I can phone up and get support for.
Some things are more than the sum of their parts, and Ubersmith fits that category nicely

Linux-tech, I don't know when your experience was with AWBS, but I have been providing the support at AWBS for almost 2 years now, and have never corrupted a database, or blamed a client for corrupting their database. I'm sure if you look 6 years back into any of these companies and someone has a horror story.
I will say I have made it my personal mission to provide the best support possible, even to the point of going above and beyond what the job description involves. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but I would say something that happened years ago should not reflect how a company is now. Obviously the developer recognized an issue with support and made changes to address those issues. I realize this is a biased opinion, but I have heard nothing but GOOD feedback over the past 2 years I have been working with AWBS. In fact I have seen alot of clients jumping ship from WHMCS over the exact same thing you have been saying about AWBS.
I am not saying your experience did not happen, and certainly it sounds like a terrible one, but obviously it's years gone past and as people can change, so can a business.
That being said, I was a user of AWBS for years before being employed by them. I used it for my Game Server Provider and about 12 different hosting companies I ran. I never had any issues and fully believe in the product. (I would not work for a company that did not have a product I believe in, especially in support, I wouldn't want that nightmare of agreeing with the clients but not being able to admit it. )

This would have been just about two years ago. In fact, this was the very reason I left AWBS (coupled with the lack of php5 support and plans to actually support it!)

Oh, it definitely happened, and it's because of your company that nobody, but nobody gets SQL access any more. I don't care how long it's been, honestly, the fact is that it still happened, and the company you're with did do this.
That was only one horror story from AWBS. I'm sure if you search the support forums, you'll see more than a few posts about date issues that took 2 years (at the time I was a client) to fix, and STILL weren't fixed.
I understand you're a AWBS employee, and that you think the product is the best, but the product, even WITHOUT bugs is still one of the worst to date for a billing client. The design of the product alone is ugly, not to mention the countless bugs.
