View Full Version : I have found the best host!
The Laughing Cow 09-13-2002, 06:23 PM I was searching about the internet for a new webhost and I came upon these two companies:
C I H O S T
Localhost
I wasn't sure which one to signup with, I hadn't heard anything bad about Localhost so I thought I would give it a try - besides they are a free host!
Pros -
100% uptime. Well as far as I could tell they were always running when I was on the PC.
The servers are not very crowded. From what I could see - I was the only person using the whole server at the time! Now that is a bargain!
They also give you full root access so you can do whatever you want on the hosting account
Cons -
Some of my friends said that they could not access the server at night - usually between midnight and nine am. I think that they are just jealous because they are with rip off hosts who you have to pay! As I said whenever I have been on the PC every time I have checked localhost have been up! That's impressive in my books!
My major gripe is that they don't seem to answer technical queries - I tried support@localhost but they never replied. I suppose I can't expect everything so I guess i'll just have to do it myself.
I am in no way affiliated with localhost before some of you flame me as a troll. (that would be messy!)
My site is http://Desktop and You can ping my IP of 127.0.0.1
I strongly advise that you host with localhost as they are better than any paid host I have ever used.
Next week I will try out C I H O S T as I am interested to see what such a cheap host can do for me. They do look a bit like they are run by school kids which worries me though.
ChickenSteak 09-13-2002, 06:25 PM lol... oooo makes me want to be hosted by localhost also! :stickout :D
Rewdog 09-13-2002, 06:25 PM
Are you dangerously bored or are you just trying to confuse the newbie popluation?
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahaha it's a very funny story but if you're serious, well...:stickout
AntiSpamHosts 09-13-2002, 06:26 PM LOL.
Going along...
Your pings are incredible! I am getting 1ms pings!
Andrew 09-13-2002, 06:27 PM HEY! I've been with localhost for several years now! 127.0.0.1 is MY ip NOT yours!
cybotix 09-13-2002, 06:31 PM i still think earhost is the best :D
The Laughing Cow 09-13-2002, 06:41 PM lightnin.
Perhaps we are using host headers? The server I am on with localhost is running Windows XP Pro - is the one you're on? I assume we are sharing an IP.
Well, you may be getting service from localhost for free...but not me!
Seems most of my money goes into it!
Although I do share the account with one woman and an 11 yr old girl. I've been thinking of switching, but I'm kinda
spoiled with the service they provide. :D
conceptual 09-13-2002, 06:47 PM Where do I signup?:D

Samuel 09-13-2002, 07:40 PM I don't have a local host.
Something about shome.domain.com
The Laughing Cow 09-13-2002, 07:51 PM I never thought this thread would turn out so funny!
I'm not banned - it's my custom title :D
What's best about localhost is that my laptop works on it even when I am out and about! Now that's service ;)
EDIT: Made it easier to understand i'm not banned heh!

Kulman 09-14-2002, 04:18 AM I hate localhost. My server was down for 8 hours last night. These bastards owe me a refund.
prosayist 09-14-2002, 04:36 AM when're they gonna upgrade PHP??
net-trend 09-14-2002, 05:28 AM prosayist,
What are you talking about? localhost is using PHP version 9.12 as of yesterday. Show me another host with the same version.
The Laughing Cow 09-14-2002, 10:21 AM localhost doesn't use PHP as it's the spawn of the devil. ASP all the way.
akashik 09-14-2002, 10:49 AM a warning:
Some people have reported that localhost often stores warez and porn. It hasn't bothered too many people though as they've usually found these people have the same twisted perversions as themselves. Still, it's something to consider if you'll be sharing your account with the wife..

shaunewing 09-15-2002, 06:00 AM I'm hosted with Localhost and can't speak highly enough of them. Their service is fantastic, I have unlimited data transfer and pings are excellent (in the microseconds!):

I think everybody should all leave their current hosts and move to Localhost! My localhost even has a permanent 56k connection with a redundant 33.6k connection ready to take over should the worst happen!
:D

I thought localhost.com was an ICANN reserved domain?
The Laughing Cow 09-17-2002, 11:05 AM Look...
I own localhost,
Localhost has an arrangement with ICANN, ARIN, RIPE, Internic, Nominet and everyone else you can imagine so that we don't have a TLD or SLD. Hence http://localhost being our canonical name. NOT localhost.com as you said. They are a seperate company (which might I add is not as good as ours ;))
