Not sure...

My apoligies if someone has discussed this already. But this has made me unsure of my account with directnic for the future. Do you receive the notification from DirectNIC's newsletter?
I have account with DirectNIC and subscribed to their newsletter.
But never receive the above information.

Definitely seems worth discussion. Have you checked the new TOS and the new pricing (if different), if the above email is actually real?
It could just be a simple move of the company to the Cayman Islands for tax or legal reasons, however.

I just read over and over and stuck with one sentence:
Quote:

If you don't want to keep receiving the great value and service that directNIC has always provided, you can transfer your domain names to another registrar within the next two weeks and directNIC, LTD will not be your registrar.

I'm not sure but the above sentence look like:
Hey we provide good service for you. If you like it, stay with us. If you don't like it, go away.
Personally, I don't think business response (and information) can be like that.
So, I'm wondering, is it true/real ?
Also, DirectNIC, LTD - Cayman Islands is a company owned by DirectNIC - the registrar ( Or Intercosmos ? - DirectNIC parent company ), who provide whois privacy protection for DirectNIC (The registrar).

I would say you are over-reacting, but I helped write that notice (and current re-writing it).
Overall customers won't see any difference, the "Intercosmos" name and the bottom of the page will change to "directNIC, LTD" and a few other places. The TOS is the same except for a name and the address.
You will be able to edit, update, buy, sell, and transfer, just like always. If you host with directNIC now, your hosting will be unaffected.
There will be a few new features added that will make life easier too for the customer. We're also being much more flexible in offering deals and promotions, something that we didn't do a year ago.
If there is something that you need to stay, let me know and I'll see about making it happen.
Michael

Guys,
It looks like Directnic is just changing it's accreditation so they are based out of the Cayman Islands to get away from U.S. jurisdiction. This could be a good thing.

I have used directnic for years, and like I had said, I just wanted to get opinions on wether or not I am over reacting to the email. Was not for sure as there was no posting on the site or in the news section about this. Was taking it with a grain of salt until i got some kind of response. But I will always look out for my clients.
I will probably let it go for the time being and see if there is any changes. I have always been a loyal directnic user for me and my clients. I would hope this will not change.

Could you explain, I mean is there any difference for the ICANN to be out of the Cayman's than the U.S.? Not bashing just wondering.

I read that sentence as more of a (required?) disclaimer, but I see your point about it almost sounding like a "take us or leave us" type statement.

Got their reply...

Hello,
Yes it is true. The only thing that is changing is the name. We will no longer be a D.B.A. of Intercosmos Media Group. We will now be directNIC, LTD and the address for directNIC, LTD will be in the Caymans, but directNIC.com's address will still be in New Orleans, La and Intercosmos Media Group's address will still be in Tampa, FL. Our phone support will stay in the same location, our servers will stay in the same location, our phone number will stay the same. The same customer support associates will be answering your tickets that have been for several years. This change just allows us to protect our customers against rules and regulations that may cause local courts to be able to decide to cease domain names. With us having directNIC, LTD in the Grand Cayman a local court in the United States will not be able to cease your domain name. It seems like there are new rules and regulations that the United States is adding to domain names over time and want our customers to feel safe.
