I think it is wonderful that clients like to complain but hide in a forum and do not reveal themselves to we can assist them with the issues. When we find them we are then required to explain ourselves to everyone.

For $3500 and months of going back and forth, you get a botched view of PHP source code (broken oscommerce site) with a few jpgs copied from two of his other sites blissfulfoods and cc-closet
cc-closet must have been one of his business deals gone sour:
childrensclothescloset appears to be for sale
I am glad I told my fried to not give him the domain name
account.

I was also ripped off by this company. After researching this company months after I should have, I joined this site just to let people know.
I hired these people to develop a logo for a new business project. After months of "we'll send it tomorrow", or "huh, I've sent it several times to you", I still have nothing. The last exchange, the owner actually made fun of my business and called me names.. I have every e-mail exchange and phone conversation between us available, and I plan on sharing it with the Ark. State Attorney General for their examination.
The money was miniscle, but the principle of trust is huge to me.
In all of my years of doing business, this is the first time I've ever been ripped off and lied to.

Sounds like a lot of childish bickering.
IMO issues should be handled in private, unless they can't be and out of courtesy you're informing other potential clients of your experience with the company.
Obviously with so many people giving bad comments there's a problem with sitedesign4u. But from my experience it's important to remember that in some cases the customer is wrong as well.
I recall one specific incident where I delivered work to a client just as agreed, I even went above and beyond. Still the client requested full refund, gave bad reviews, and even started a blogspot to flame me. LOL
This is rare, but it happens. Not everyone is going to like you, that's just business. sitedesign4u, you have a problem, you know what it is, just fix it.

You "went above and beyond",
Yet the customer still felt angry enough to get a full refund
And make a serious effort to discredit you.
I don't see how that's a defense

Good response but I think this Op's post is fishy. Funny how its "his friend". Its pure hearsay. Plus everyone who added bad comments to this thread are new members with 1-2 posts only being in this thread.
Dont sweat it, maybe it is some disgruntled client, competiton, etc. I would request this thread name be changed though, maybe ask staff about this. Even though all is obvious BS the thread title is bad seo as Im sure you know.
good luck

For anyone interested in a follow up, check out "Government actions" on the BBB site in AK for this company under it's main name of C.M.H.. As I can't link the URL(as I'm a newbie here), here's the quote: "On April 1, 2009, Mr. Theodore Hantak of sitedesigns4u was arrested by the Berryville, Arkansas, police department on charges of theft by deception and holds for other agencies. On April 4, 2009, Mr. Hantak was arrested for intimidating a witness. Mr. Hantak was placed under a no-contact order.

This matter is pending. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for April 20, 2009."

05-13-2009, 07:42 PM
, 2009 Med Supplies 2 You, Inc. hired Mr. Hantak to develop a new ecommerce website for the agree upon amount of $4,000.00 and perform search engine optimization at a rate of $1,000.00 a month. Mr. Hantak was paid $1000.00 as a security deposit on January 6, 2009 and promised the website would be completed within thirty business days. On the date of January 13, 2009 Mr. Hantak called Marc Kaplan (The Owner of Med Supplies 2 You, Inc.) and said he had completed forty hours worth of programming and would need another $1,000.00 installment to continue working. Marc then paid Mr. Hantak the $1,000.00 he had requested to further complete the project he claimed he had been working on. For several weeks after the second installment was made Marc had tried to get into contact with Mr. Hantak but had no luck. Finally after several weeks Mr. Hantak out of the blue decided to call Marc and tell him that there was an ice storm and he wasn’t able to work on the website because the power was out. Marc who is very understanding said “OK” and told Ted Hantak to just continue working on the site since now he has power. On the date March 3, 2009 Mr. Hantak of sitedesigns4u.com contacted Marc and told him that the website was completed and showed Marc an image file of the website. Marc then did a wire transfer in the amount of $3,000.00 to Crystal Hantak’s bank account (Ted Hantaks wife and the owner of CMH Technologies, Charge4u.com, Goenow.com and Sitedesigns4u.com). When Marc got back to the office he noticed that the image Mr. Hantak had shown him earlier which Marc approved of said the name chemistwarhouse dot com at the bottom. Marc went to the website and found that Mr. Hantak took a snapshot of the website and put Med Supplies 2 You’s logo at the top. Marc contacted Ted (Theodore Hantak) and told him of his findings. Ted said he didn’t know how this could have happened and said one of his Australian designers must have ripped it off. Marc told Mr. Hantak to fix the problem and create a design for medsupplies2you that has not been ripped off. Mr. Hantak agreed. Since then it has been impossible to get a hold of Ted Hantak or anyone who he claims works for his company. It is to my belief that Ted Hantak is the only employee. Furthermore, Ted Hantak was arrested by the Berryville Police Department the month of April. This arrest log can be easily found at (carrollconews {dot com} /story/1527559.html). Mr. Hantak was arrested again shortly after for intimidating a witness. The witness is one of his clients who he ripped off like he did to medsupplies2you.com. Marc, after finding all of this out called the Berryville police department and found out there are about seven other companies who are filling the same complaints and the office was sure many more would step forward now. Marc was also told that all of sitedesigns4u.com hard drives had been confiscated as evidence to prove that Mr. Hantak had not completed any design projects since 2004. As a result of this Marc hired another company ezosc to complete medsupplies2you.com and they got the job done in seven business days as promised for $2,000.00. Med Supplies 2 You also was able to charge back $1,000.00 from sitedesign4u.com but the remaining $4,000.00 wont be able to be recovered until we file a lawsuit in small claims court. If anyone else has had a similar experience with Ted Hantak please call us and maybe we can work together to resolve this situation.

Wow.. Anyone else able to read that? guess he never heard of paragraphs.

I could read it, though it took a bit more of my focus :)

Regarding the story..
This really upsets me. I think everyone at some point gets burned by a bad designers/developer at least once. My first and last time was many years ago when I gave one of my guitars to "a friend" as collateral to build my bands website(many many years ago). He was at that point far better than I was.. Long story short I ended up building it myself and learned perl in the process. Years later I found & purchased the same guitar from a pawn shop for double what I paid brand new. But it was my first guitar and had sentimental value :)

$4k is obviously a different and far worse story. I'm so sick of these guys. There's plenty of honest hard working design/developers they can hire. 3 days turnaround seems a bit fishy. Sure for a simple design maybe, but you've got to consider feedback and time for revisions. Plus $4k would have at least 2 weeks of my undivided attention. So not only are these crooks lying & stealing, but they're charging far more than they should for "make believe" websites. It's a tragedy.

More and more of these stories are going around and I'm inclined to start some type of honest/dependable design/developer website. With standards, rules, requirements, etc.

Very very sorry to hear all that Marc. You've obviously learned an expensive lesson. Best of luck in the future.

I find this all very interesting.

I had a run in with Ted Hantak myself years ago. Must have easily been 6 years ago. I was selling electronics and in search of a new supply chain. Cannot recall how I originally came in contact with the gentleman, but it was in relation to a company that later turned out to be a pyramid scheme where he ran off with even more money from folks. The name of that particular website was yoursuccessmatters.com.

Well as it stood, Ted told me he could line me with some people he worked with that could provide for me electronics at a wholesale price. He went on to tell me how he was selling on eBay left and right as well as on a website. He showed me invoices and the whole works. However, he wanted a finder's fee. I mulled on it a bit, and decided to go ahead and pay the $100 fee.

I kid you not. He sent me a link to Overstock.com stating that this website was the secret to his success. At the time overstock.com was a new company, first year in business I believe. I was in disbelief of what he sold me. When I confronted him on it, he told me that there were no refunds.

I was fumed.

However, I kept tabs on this guy. He was creating little sites left and right and looking back I am assuming he was conning others out of their money.

I came across one of his sites. I cannot recall the name, but it was something to the effect of 1wholesaleshop.com. The site looked very similar. In fact, it was a copy of overstock.com's website. I challenged him on the fact and he told me he had permission of overstock.com to use their site's coding for his own and that he was an authorized reseller. I called his bluff.

I went ahead and called the company directly. I told them of my findings. The next day, the CEO, Patrick Bryne (I believe his name was) emailed me directly and thanked me. And here's the best part. He gave me a $100 credit to buy whatever I wanted from his website. I thanked him for his gratitude.

Later that day, Ted's site was taken down and in place he put up some search engine in it's place. I enjoyed that sweet victory as I got my $100 back outta the whole mess. Maybe not directly from Ted, but hey, it's a win for me.

Over the course of that year, I ran into a couple other people that had been burned by Ted. The dude seemed to be just a classic con artist. I'm glad it's all catching up to him.

If you ask me, I don't think he ever made a site for anyone. I firmly believe he was copying other people's work and selling it as his own. I would bet money that you can find a duplicate website for every site he has sold.

*****

Oh, and before I forget. One time I had correspondence with his wife, Crystal. When I started telling her how much of a scumbag her husband was she informed me how sorry she was to tell me that Ted had died of heart failure. LOL.

Looking back, I would bet that it was Ted himself whom I was talking to.

The lies never end. And there is sweet justice in this world. :)

This thread is disgusting. I guess the silver lining is that this scumbag was finally arrested.

And hopefully all involved can recover their losses without too much hassle!

I just found this thread after doing a search on "ted hantak". I wondered if something like this had happened to him. he made a year of my life a nightmare. Simply put, the man is a thief with no conscience and he deserves to be behind bars. I hope that's where he is now.

The story of the gentleman with the medical supplies business is very similar to mine. I paid him to do a webstore for me. it was to be a small part time business and I had someone lined up to run it. weeks dragged into months. he finally got me a site that never worked properly and was both a visual and functional mess. He was months late and had one ridiculous excuse after another for why he was late. A snake bit his kid's dog, his kid was sick, the weather knocked their power out, and on and on and on. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt but everything he said turned out to be bold faced lies.

eventually, I had to retain another developer who got me a great site in 6 weeks.

This is an old thread but I'm posting here because if anyone else has had issues with this guy, and if anyone else needs any support for any legal or civil action, I'm game. respond here and let me know. I don't want to give my name here because, frankly, I don't trust the guy not to do something nasty. When I withheld final payment of $400 because he flat out had not performed, and I had to go with someone else, he threatened to shut down my domain. I doubt he could've done that but the last thing I needed was more stress and hassle because of this jerk, so I paid and moved on.

karma's a bear and it's going to bite him squarely in the butt, if it hasn't already. hopefully he'll run into the wrong client who will make him pay for screwing so many other people.
