How long did you take to go live?

Well im working on my linux boxes getting everything primed which is a huge list of items to complete and I've been at it for nearly 6 months now which includes custom iptables, a few custom kernel modules, libvirt, collectd, nagios and rsyslog all working together (plus a whole lot of other things I can't remember off the top of my head) with a ruby frontend control panel. How long did it take for you to go to live?

so what happens if you loose all the data on one of them machines? do you spend another 6 months configuring the machine?

If you've prepared everything before buying a server/vps it shouldn't take you more than a few days. It'll cost you less too in the long run
Have you thought about writing some shell scripts to make things go faster in the event that you need to do this again?

It won't I use cobbler and puppet to create images and scm for configs. The main problem with it all is configuring everything to work as I want it to such as samhain snort iptables I plan on making things as smooth as possible once everything is up to keep prices down. oh and this is for a large scale plan I already have a few servers running a basic stack.
