Hello, I'm new to the forum, been reading some things the last few days. Anyways, I've been looking at tons of places to get one.

I've been looking at www.Rackshack.net at a lot, basically the AMD Package 2 w/ $99 + $1 setup fee. Now, I've heard this is really unmanaged except for hardware help... This dedicated server stuff is new to me, but I do have a few friends that will help me, and one that has been with rackshack before. Should I go with them when the package is available?

I want to pay less then $150 a month, and I want to stay away from a large setup fee... if possible. I've also been looking at www.Fastservers.net but they are not available at the moment it looks like? Can anyone point me at some sites that I should take a look at what I want?

What I want again:
- $150 or less a month w/ a setup fee that's not too expensive, I would like a managed ded. server.
- Atleast 30GB+ of space...
- High transfer... like, 100GB+ month... cause I like RackShacks.net 400GB monthly transfer... (Do some places make you pay the monthly price for server AND bandwidth cost? I think I've seen that a few times, not sure...)
- A control panel, possibly Ensim, or maybe even CPanel, trying to stay away from Plesk (I've had it before when my friend hosted me from his Dedicated Server, I wasn't a fan of it)

Specs, I'm not sure what specs that I would need, all I want to run is my own website, an irc server, and host other peoples sites including my friends who will be paying the server with me. A lot of places is usually like 1ghz, with 512MB ram or 256MB ram, someone tell me whats good for what I want?

Thanks for your time :)

hi,

several advices for you.

1. amd is not that good for servers (trust me, I got one xp and two duron servers)

2. if you are going to use rackshack, make sure its possible to add more RAM to the server you are going to order (celeron serves are not allowed to do so due to cheap motherboard and the max ram for duron server is 1GB)

Well, I talked with Abdul from Freeservers.net for awhile earlier, PMs and AIM. What's hurting me with the bill is the setup fee, other then that... dang I love it, hehe. Total comes out to $609. Unless, I don't use CPanel then it's a little cheaper... but he said CPanel is like the best out there? Can others verify this? Or what other control panel are good that I can use instead? Because I'm thinking of using FreeBSD (because it's more secure) instead, but CPanel don't work with that, atleast at freeservers...

I'd rather you had given reasons why you assert AMD is not good for servers, instead of just saying "trust me." As a rule, when someone says "trust me", I don't.

Nocster.com has 99.00 a month managed servers :)

Besides the network connectivity problems that they are fixing, have heard only positive things about them.

EDIT: They also have Cpanel for an additional 20.00 per month :)

They also have Cpanel included in that price :D

Yea, I saw this a few days ago but that setup fee hurts, but it's not as bad as Freeservers considering right now they only except quarterly payments (freeservers that is). I was considering them too. What's WHM :)

They also have Cpanel included in that priceThat would be incorrect, CPanel will cost you an extra $20 a month at Nocster (still cheap as hell) ;)

How about this... anyone know of another place with:

40GB or 60GB hard drive
300GB+ transfer
$200 or less setup fee.
$99 monthly fee
CPanel... atleast $30 or less... maybe even included... (or even another good control panel... don't really matter unless it's Plesk)
No price to reboot
512MB ram preferrably, with 800+ mhz processor

That is not a scam and such as well.... with not many problems, and managed...

I've already looked at rackshack.net, nocster.com and freeservers.net....

I personally don't like AMDs because after long periods of constantly running (1 Year+), everyone of my servers reset the multiplier by theirselves on reboot.. Plus, I've never had one last over two years in a heavy server environment.
