I feel robbed!!
Hello, ladies and gentlemen don't buy from "sujith" (http://www.sujithnambiar.com/) he stiffed me for $25.00, I paid him half before he got started. I gave him 3 examples of what I wanted done. He decided to take it into his own will to design something of his own style and not mine.
I asked for my money back and he denied my request. And then he decided to block me on aim. Am I wrong or am I right? A paying customer should result in a satisfied customer, right?

Well there are two sides to each story but I will go ahead and tell you this.
He should have designed what YOU wanted not what he wanted. After all you are the client, you are paying. However, if he did do the work then he should be paid. Although, he should redesign the site the way you want.
I don't always hit my designs on target with the customers wishes...but when I don't I always revise to until they are satisfied no matter what. With that being said, he needs to design you something that you can use. Normally with design, you don't get your money back if ANY work has been done. Time is money, and whoever it was, spent some time doing it.
Not taking his side, I think he needs to redesign you something you can use, but I wouldn't give a refund either. I would however redesign you something you want. Blocking you on AIM is unacceptable, and this "designer" makes good designers like myself AND the industry look horrible.

I agree that since he worked the money don't try to request them.
Was it clear that the 3 examples were for him to "copy" or to be inspired?
I am blaming it to communication.

hmm....let's wait to see what the designer guy says.
my own thoughts are that a designer should work to the client's specifications not his owm.
it seems more of a communication/dispute thing and hardly a robbery.
just out of curiousity...what work did you want done for $50? an extra page/logo or banner?
owm

It was clear what I wanted. I showed him them and told him to design it close to the designs I showed him but with out making it exactly the same. But what he gave me was NOTHING what so ever what I wanted.
I do agree he deserves to get paid for his work but also satisfy the customer. I then just told him to design me a mascot and he said no and this was about the time he blocked me.

Sounds like a bad situation. It could be a situation of where "designer inspiration" overrides what the client wants, which unfortunately can be problematic. :-/

Hate to rush to judgement on threads such as these without hearing both sides of the story. Of course, the designer should have followed your instructions. Should he paid for his time - probably. Blocking you on AIM - unacceptable. Upfront sounds like yet another horror story.

Well, my advice would be never pay 100% upfront. When I do freelance work, I always ask for 50% down. That's fair for both sides. And if you do get ripped off, then at least it wasn't for the whole amount.
Unfortunately, there are scammers without ethics in this industry.
