URL abbreviation

I'm not sure whether this is the best forum for this question; if not, I welcome suggestions.
It seems it should be fairly simple to host one's own lilurl/snurl-type URL shortening script, either for general or admin-only use. But I've had no luck finding one, and don't even know the optimal search terms to look. Any ideas?

Are you referring to a tinyurl type thing? You wanted to be be able to create such URLs yourself...?

Right. So I could redirect "mydomain.com/abc" to another URL. I'm also looking at .htaccess or editing the Apache mod_alias module, but that's above my pay grade.

Hi,
I've used this before:http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2007/...urls-with-php/
Works good.

You're looking for a "short url script" or a "url shortening script". This one isn't bad: http://www.gentlesource.com/short-url-script/
