Move to vps or dedicated?
When do we move from reseller shared hosting to vps and than move again to dedicated server?
Thanks for any opinion.

People usually move away from shared to VPS when they need empowerment (as in freedom) and from VPS to dedicated when they need high performance.

I think you need to move to vps or dedicated if:
1. You want to set up your own rule about resources.
2. You are not satisfied with your reseller company.
It just my opinion...

When your site has outgrown VPS hosting, it is time to switch to dedicated hosting. If you are still on shared hosting then a VPS where you get a virtual server that shares a physical server with few other VPS is a good intermediate step.

With a vps you will benefit from a larger share of the cpu and you can decide when the cut off point will be for your customers, you will be able to create true reseller accounts, install the software you choose, manage your own security, which would be helpful if you don't think your current host is doing a good job at it, choose your operating system, choose whether you want to run a less stable but newer version of your control panel so you can benefit from newer/better features, manage and restore your own backups etc. Most reseller accounts are on a server with RAID 1, any good vps provider, at least in my opinion, will have hardware based RAID 10 in place which will make you a more reliable webhost as well. I think the main reason to move on to a server will be when when you've outgrown your share of the cpu on a vps, you need more memory, a good shared server will have 4-8gb of ram, which you won't find on a vps' and begin to need unmetered bandwidth and more storage capacity - typically vps' don't have more than 200gb.

Once you have outgrown Reseller then upgrade to a VPS and if you can handle that and want more power then upgrade to a dedicated server

It must be added though that not all resellers upgrade to a VPS or dedicated as soon as possible. Instead, they continue to buy additional reseller accounts, sometimes from different hosts (to avoid keeping all their eggs in one basket).

When choosing a VPS, also checked the RAM SLA. You have two options, choose Virtuozzo and XEN - Both are good, but research if the service you are getting is not being oversell.
Although, on XEN they could not do this.

Moving from shared to vps to dedicated depends largely on your growth projection, business plan, budget, existing hardware and software limitations as they affect your business, but more often, it's an upgrade of 'piece of mind.' You need more control, security, scalebility and higher performance.
The best to you
