To W3C icon or not to icon?
So I'm curious, what's the general thought on putting those little W3C badges showing validated (X)HTML or CSS code on a site?
Does it really serve any purpose aside from vainglory? Are they considered tacky and pointless? Or are they considered acceptable to show for a job well done?
To be honest, I don't really recall ever seeing them on an actual site.
Thoughts?

No point. Only a developer might see it and click it just for fun.
At least that's what I do when I see it.

I've actually begun to see them more often. I don't view them as tacky and can appreciate possibly some marketing value - more positive than negative.

Unless you create one that matches the site and goes will with the footer. I think they are clutter and clash.

You can just as easily create a small link to each validating source over opting to place a button for each on your website.
Honestly, I see no true value in them. I validate the coding before a website goes live, I don't really need a button to verify the coding is validated.
Given unless it was an SSL or Authenticated button that has some bearing on business, I wouldn't worry about it.

I definitely think it's clutter, unless it happens to match the web site design.

It makes sense only for web designer's home website... Something like reminder: "We take care about valid code"...

Exactly what I was about to say. If you are a web developer/designer, that link could give you a couple more customers
But it can bite the other way. You will have to spend a lot of time getting it right, or people could be deterred by the errors.
