View Full Version : Global Dialog Internet nightmare

I used to host my personal/business site with Global Dialog Internet in Madison, WI. I liked that they were a local business that didn't keep getting bought out by bigger and bigger corporations. But the tech support was pretty snarky, and then they called me and told me I would have to upgrade to a more expensive account because I was over the 5MB (!) space limit. So I decided to switch to another host.

When the woman in the billing department asked me why I was leaving, I responded honestly that I wasn't satisfied with the tone of the tech support and with their features. My e-mail found its way to the company owner, and he sent me an extremely rude e-mail bitching me out that I was the one with the "attitude problem." I responded, saying I was simply trying to explain the situation, and that the attitude I talked about was eminently displayed by what he wrote. Which led to this e-mail to me:

And you are obviously an *******.
You are one -- one -- of a very, very, very small list of people that have ever claimed such problems, which is why you are an *******, and it's not us.

Good riddance, *******---

Can you believe that? I was shocked and amazed.

That president/owner was probably the support guy you talked to :p

Maybe he's had too much cheese today and isn't feeling "regular"?

That do sound like a small child, who don't like the way you play in his sandbox.

I have been a dial-up customer of Globaldialog's since 1996 until I went to cable this summer. My longevity as a customer tells a little about my satisfaction with them as an ISP (and their time spent in the biz). My switch to cable had nothing to do with any unsatisfactory service I experienced with GDI, rather it was because my telephone company, Ameritech, was out to lunch. I've never experienced anything but fair treatment from GDI. Sure, the space was small, however that was the space that comes with your personal dial-up account. Most ISPs have similar small space allotments. If you want a larger space, invest in paid hosting, rather than using your ISP.

Just to clarify: I *was* paying for a domain hosting account with GDI. With the Cold Fusion, I was paying about $30/mo. Most domain hosting accounts, even ones that cost much less, have quite a bit larger space allotment.

But the space issue was just the last straw, and really a minor point in the scheme of things. The main problem was the snarky attitude of the techs, which I think is eminently demonstrated by Mr. Trautman's outburst. I would complain, but he's the owner of the company.
