Are these hosts reliable?

That's a little general. If you do a search, you'll find tons of info on your first and third choices.

Not familiar with Willowwebhosting at all. Continue your search and you'll find you can do better.

I was looking at willow hosting, and the packages are very attractive :D
I'm wondering how their services are..

I'll have to retract my recommendation for now....I can't seem to find HR's TOS link on their website (not a good thing)

as for WWH...

Refund and Disputes: All payments to WillowWeb are nonrefundable

That means no 30day money back guarantee :(

Limbo
09-12-2002, 09:22 PM
hmm....well it's only like 13 bucks...

Akash
09-12-2002, 09:26 PM
$13 = 1 large pizza with a 2 liter bottle of coke
$13 = dinner for you and your family at taco bell
$13 = a couple meals at MCD
$13 wasted on a host is wasted money that could have been put to good use.

If you are going to look for a new host, look for one with at least a 30day money back guarantee....
...thats the main reason i've stayed away from RS for my dedicated boxes...if something goes wrong and its not your fault..your SOL

heh, true dat, but I think I know someone that is currently hosted with them, i'm gonna ask em and report back :D

Uh sure. What about?

It's been up the entire time I've had them for about a little over a week now, almost 2. It's quick, the user support is decent, sorta. I haven't had the need for it really, except for a few questions, and I can almost always find willowdream herself on irc.webchat.org in #willowweb. There is also a newly put up web forum on her site.

It uses Plesk to administer your account/domains, has PHPMyAdmin v2.2.0 installed (not the newest but good enough) and it has MySQL 3.23.36 running on it.

I think a lot of her customers come from the Cyberwings debacle (we're called Cyberwings Refugees now ) and I believe willow herself was a refugee. So I have a fair amount of confidence in her that what happened with CW won't happen.

Any questions?

So, now I asked him how the speed is, and if they are a honest host (if they like cut your bw and stuff).

Well, go with Willow and let us know how they are in a month or two. I'd be interested in hearing a report.

10 meg file, see how fast that goes. Good commerical too. Those ad agencies are goooood.

You can also do a traceroute to www.crimetank.com and see how it looks.

Uhm, overcharging your card? Nah, I don't think so. I paid for a whole year, $36 for 4GB monthly and 150MB of space. Checkout is done through www.2checkout.com (third party).

:) Sounds good.

paid for a whole year

that was a bad choice IMO...

you should never prepay with a host that does not have an acceptable cancellation policy and refund policy

My recommendation is AWH. I've been with them since March. No downtime, great support with quick responses.

Terms of service are here:

my personal opinion....i would not trust a host that uses RS dedicated boxes for their customers websites.....i've heard many horror stories....

I have been with hostrocket for some time. They moved to their new datacenter, not to long ago, the move was bumpy. Other than the short move, they have been SUPERB. My site is never down, everything is always working, and when I had to use technical support, I got a quick reply.

haha limbo, i wish you had let me know you were here :)

in any case, i have confidence in willow, and that's why i prepaid for the whole year.

plus, paying by the month isn't worth it when there's an initial setup fee.

it was $36 for a whole year, if for some reason i'm out, then i'm out $36. but even $36 for a month or two of exceptional service doesn't bother me.

i lost $4 on the cyberwings thing, so i let that go. this is a bit more money, 9x as much. but that just shows i have 9x as much confidence in service and competence. :)

Alright guys..... Willowweb.com has noticed your concerns and instituted a refund policy.

While not a 30 day 100 % refund policy..It is fairly inclusive and fair.

AlwaysWebHosting does use RackShack, although all new customers are actually going in our new server farm.

I didn't realize that that graphic was being used elsewhere. I got that on a cd of computer graphics a friend of mine gave to me. I will change that immediately. Thank you for pointing that out :)

I'd stay away from HostRocket.
I was with them for four months all without cgi working. They kept promising to fix it, and obviously I believed it for awhile, but four months? I left, and months later it still didn't work.
Do a search on them here and every time somebody complains, all they do is respond defending themselves instead of fixing whatever it is that was wrong in the first place. Very typical of their suport.

Willow, not a biggie. :)

Our designer probably got it from some stock photo place anyway. Thought I'd point it out before someone else did. It is a good idea to be original though it is difficult to know if some images are being used elsewhere.
