It all depends on the number of visitors that visit his site. Bandwidth isn't the factor advertisers look at. (all of that 220 GB could be file downloads instead of valid HTML for instance)

220 Gigs a day?   WOW!!! He can make some good money doing pop-unders and what not. Enough to *possibly* pay for his monthly bill at least. How much is his monthly bill if I may ask?

internetfuel.com ... they should accept you. They accepted me so they seem to accept anyone.

# Name Hits Size
2. And1 Mixtape Vol.5 6,361,153 790MB

I beleave your site can live without files like this :D

How much per month does his server cost?

online advertising is pretty much dead for the little fellas. [IMO :D]

Actually online advertising is sorta going up. But it's no where near what it was. Back in the days of the dot-com boom you could get $50-100CPM... now you're lucky to get $1.00
However last year it was around .20-.30CPM

They also don't allow sites with copyrighted material

(5) Publisher is generally familiar with the nature of the Internet and will comply with all laws and regulations that may apply; and (6) the Website does not and will not infringe any copyright, trademark, patent or other proprietary right. Publisher grants Fastclick.com and the customer the right and license to transmit the Creative to the Website.

As suggested at another forum where you posted this, have the user pay a membership fee to download the mpgs etc. You won't find too many ad companies wanting to use your site. (Certainly not the good ones)

Well, having people sign up would certainly lower your bandwith as well

 you look at the content actually being SERVED by those sites?!

huge 50+ meg music video's!, i'd seriously take those out, and pray you're not paying for 95th percentile bandwidth (because if so, and you've already been running this for a few days, get ready to pay for a whopping 20mbps or so from your uplink! :eek2:

Wow, lots of music videos on that site, many of them I found on the newsgroups.

*looks at site, looks at MTV, looks at site, looks at MTV re-runs again then switches to VH1, switches back to MTV to catch the Osbornes, then looks at site again*

Wow, seeing double!

220 gigs is nothing that any advertsizer is interested in.

what they are looking for is the following

auditable numbers

1) page loads
2) viewing times on page
3) region of viewers
4) market segment of viewers
5) age of viewers

those are the basics

currently the best placed advertsing ( for those that do 1mm or more page loads)

is

age : 23
income : 47K+
demographic : cities of population exceeding 500K
female

if you got that, then you have a good chance of of getting 1.25 cpm advertsing ( has to have a click rate of atleast .63% ) and a .17 click rate

guys thats the whole point of his sites is media based lol dont try to flame all i was asking about was any urls of places that may do banners or popups/unders for him.

porcupine
09-13-2002, 04:48 PM
the other point is though, because he does host media files, he will get very very very few banner impressions per mb, possibly not even 1:1. Media file sites typically use around 100-10,000 times the bandwidth per visitor that most sites consum, so expecting any return off this is relatively hopeless.

Hey check out sitepointforums.com - go to the advertising area and ask there, many more webmasters than at WHT.

With that much bandwidth transfer and only a few thousand visitors per month you need to seriously re-consider the way you're site is running. You basically have no chance to make any money or break even with that much transfer per day with that minimal amount of visitors.

If you are offering unique downloads that you own, charge per download - or purchases. Otherwise get rid of the big files and make the site content based not media based.... or at least cut down the large file sizes.

Good luck!
