I have a silly question here.

What would be the best method to deal with e-commerce for customers sites?

Is there a billing solution that would allow me to use one gateway for e-commerce AS WELL AS bill customers for domains ?

Should I simply provide the software and make the customer use THEIR merchant account for their sales?

How do providers usually deal with their billing VS e-commerce billing ?

What you mean you own the merchant account, run your customers' ecommerce transactions through that one account and you cut checks when they make a sale? If that's what you mean, then honestly, unless your business model is really going to make it worth your while, I'd find a better way of just introducing your ecommerce customers to a merchant account provider and hopefully making a little on the backend.

But, I think technically it's possible to funnel most any sale you want through something like 2checkout.com or paypal.com.

Did I understand your question correctly? Sorry if I didn't.

Sorry...I was a bit vague there....

well I was wondering if it is standard practice (if such a thing exists) to have customers get their OWN merchant account or not when they wish to do e-commerce.

(I have NO desire to cut checks for people....I could imagine the nightmare in book-keeping and possible dis-satisfied paranoid customers that would bring.)

I'm pretty sure it's against most merchant account contracts to process payments for other businesses.

So yeah, your customers would need their own merchant account if they wanted to accept credit card payment. Unless they went with a third party system, and paid 5-10%.
