Not sure this is proper place for the Q, but will ask anyway. Apologies if wrong place.

I run an opinion mag online hosted at ICDSoft. I want to have a "letters" section with limit access for posting letters for several editors, but I want it sort of apart from the main layout and articles. Right now, all the letters we want to print have to be sent to me and I have to put them into format and "publish" them to the site via FP2002.

I'd rather have a thing like a newsgroup with limited access, but ICDSoft does not offer one and I can't find a free one that works well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hawk

Have you tried Greymatter? (http://www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/) I use it for a personal site of mine and it sounds like it would suit your needs just fine. It takes a little bit of the good 'ol HTML to get it looking good though.

though i do my site with frontpage and have forgotten all html that i laboriously learned many years ago. did not learn it well, either.

is this the simplest of the weblog style pgms? some examples are very handsome minimalist approaches, which i like.

I think pmachine does something similar also

pMachine works wonders. Its very simpl e to change around (the CSS is as straight forward as it comes) and it validates as 100% compliant (something FP has never and will never do).

Or you can try Coranto. :)

Unless you use a template or someone elses layout Greymatter starts basically unformatted and you create the page as you see fit. If you don't know any HTML even working with the template changes may be a bit much.

Have you looked at Blogger at www.blogger.com?

Or Moveable Type (www.moveabletype.org) has some good stuff too. Also b2 is good at www.cafelog.com. There's also www.livejournal.com and www.deadjournal.com.

I think Blogger looks the easiest, but Moveable Type looks the most functional. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Nucleus (http://nucleuscms.org) is another good choice. It has a lot of functionality while still being pretty easy to use. And like pMachine, the default skin is built completely on css and validates nicely.

It might be a little too powerful for what your looking to do, but I'd recommend GeekLog...

Pmachine is a nice program, though compared to things like Postnuke, it seems to be lacking in features.

Probably the easiest, lightest is b2

Get it here (http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/11486.html)

It's nice and simple.
