View Full Version : resellerpanel vs hostgator
andymit 11-24-2008, 07:54 AM resellerpanel vs hostgator
Hi there, I am currently with resellerpanel, and can honestly say that we are not happy with the service we have been getting. Although we do not have many clients, there has been quite a few down times and also email problems form there servers being bared.
We are thinking of moving to hostgator and would like to know what the feeling is here on the ground...is this a wise move? We like the idea of a hosting company that is reasonable green ï
What do people think about moving is it an easy process?
Well forum, we are quiet new to this game and rather inexperienced so we need support and help along the way from our chosen company. Also we donât want the limited clients that we do have getting fed up because of bad service...
Right over to you...looking forward to hearing what youâve got to say about this issue.
Hostamina 11-24-2008, 07:59 AM I've had past experiences with both places and I believe HostGator will definitely provide a higher quality service. As for moving, it may or may not be an easy process depending on what types of websites your clients have, the differences in server settings, etc.

PAH - Tim 11-24-2008, 08:04 AM I have also had past experiences with both companies and I would also recommend HostGator. ResellersPanel were not as helpful as I would have liked from a host. HostGator support was always very reliable and helpful when I needed them.
I thought HG had a Free Migration Service to help you move? I could be mistaken.
andymit 11-24-2008, 08:22 AM I have been looking into the migration help but not sure about it yet. It seems to be the general feeling that resellerpanel are not that helpful really. My greatest fear is moving to another one that is also not helpful especially when one is new to this one needs the support at the beginning
bager 11-24-2008, 08:29 AM From HG site: they will assist with you by moving up to 30 websites for you free of charge (for resellers).

andymit 11-24-2008, 09:55 AM it seems to be going towards hostgator
it's a funny old world though so many companies promise the world to get you in the door and then let you down...i really can't afford this to happen again both financially and with respect to my rapidly greying hair :-)
Andymit,
you may also look for "smaller" host who may give you a more personalised attention.

Website Flipping Guy 11-24-2008, 10:22 AM I like Hostgator for the most part, however ... I recently got in touch with them re: an enquiry about their Cpanel. I wanted to know if they planned on updating it anytime soon as their current version installs a very old version of WP. They didn't have any information for me and basically said it wasn't going to happen. I had to do a manual upgrade but will be looking to move host soon as I install alot of blogs.
txitcs 11-24-2008, 11:30 AM I'd go with hostgator, they were excellent when I used them. I would always get responses very quickly to trouble tickets.

True, many small hosts have more time on their hands, and more willingness for hand holding customers. In an ideal scenario they remain so in the long turn, whether growing as a company or not. Usually though, growth makes the host less flexible. That's to a large degree a result of the owner(s) no longer being the main working force behind the company. They tend to be more willing to undersell their time, to make a single customer happy.
Worst case scenario, the company fails when the partnership breaks (health or personal issues are the most likely culprit). Life happens, but this is a major risk one takes when going for a (very) small provider. Few will have extensive contingency plans for a situation where they're away from the business for say 1 month.
Resellerpanel has two types of reseller hosting. One similar to HG's in its approach (cPanel hosting), the other, quite different. Moving from one to the other, could result in a rather steep learning curve. With cPanel hosting, you're much more involved in your business.
