Hello,
I recently started a thread called Private Servers, and it was moved into the advertising forum.
Now yes I own a hosting company, but do not offer any off these private servers on my site. I was looking for opinions on the matter, but yet is was moved.
Now under general forums, there is a thread called
Weinbar Communications, and constantly people are asking have you heard of this company.
In some way that is all advertising, and should be moved.
At least be consistent.
Thats all Im saying.
Joe
This person was inquiring as to the quality of service WeinBar provides.

Isnt that some for of advertising.
The minute you mention a company and or a product, technically its a form of advertising.
There is a very distinct difference here.
You, as a host, are creating a new topic, on a survey.
The other person creating the topic 'Weinbar Communications' however, is an interested person looking for feedback on the host. He is not a host.
If we moved all topics like the 'Weinbar Comms' topic, half the General Web Hosting topics wouldn't exist (basically in other words, your definition is unnecessarily more strict than what the mods (and the forum) sees it as).
Do you see the difference now? ;)

To put it another way (in case our email exchanges on the subject and this thread aren't clear enough), if someone asks about Weinbar's plan4 package and in general, what members think of that company, that is fine. BUT, if *Weinbar* asks about plan4 and what members thinks of their package or company, that's no good.
Hosts have a few more rules to play by in regards to posts about their own company. We even allow hosts to *answer* and clarify posts made by members to a degree, so long as the conversation is only related to the thread, and for the most part, would generally interest the board as a whole.
We have to cut it short when it becomes a support thread, or when the questioining gets so direct that it would be better off being emailed.
Note: This does NOT apply to the Advertsing Forum, where you can *freely* post surveys, offers, converse with members up and back about your packages, etc. We do ask that you still use the Advertsing as a sales tool, and not as a support forum (get yer own for that and put it on yer site bucko! :))
