View Full Version : 3 letter .net domain, how much ?
trafficbuild 09-11-2002, 09:57 PM hi guys, i just got this domain www.y11.net wat do you think it can worth?? 10 USD + ?
as long as it worth more than 8.88 then i'll be happy enough:D
Incognito 09-11-2002, 10:20 PM and that makes a big difference. It is three character.
Unless you can make some meaning out of those characters, there is nothing special about this domain name.
trafficbuild 09-11-2002, 10:49 PM but dont u think that y11 is more meaningful than normal 3 characters domain like fsx.com? i mean in ease of remember...
wat i can think of for the moment is only Yil even.NET
eleven network :stickout
Need ur guys help to get more meaning out of this thing
OhSoKorny 09-12-2002, 03:00 AM *twich*
Use... spelling... u does not stand for you.... '''' are your friends...
*twitch*
trafficbuild 09-12-2002, 04:49 AM
What OhSoKorny is saying is this is not a chat room, try to compose a complete sentance using completely spelled words.
No, I do not think that y11 is more meaningful than a normal 3 character domain like fsx. If your company's name is "FreeSexXrays" then fsx has just as much meaning as Y11 would if your company name was "YellowEleven"
More sense can usually be made of three letters than three characters, but that's up to you to provide a real meaning for Y11. - Not us.
trafficbuild 09-12-2002, 09:50 PM come one, just need some comments, if you think this will crack your head, then forget about it. I'm out of idea that why seeking help here, i thought this is one of the benefit in involving a forum??
You could do what the owner of the .com has done with it.
Lats...
trafficbuild 09-13-2002, 04:47 AM hmmm.. why i so stupid :stickout but this .com is currently for sale :(
icehosting 09-25-2002, 06:27 PM I think that i remember a similar name sale for about $100.
3letter domains, or should we say 3 character domains are only worth something if they all are letters.
Congratulations to you if you can make some money from selling it, i mean it. But i doubt it... :(
trafficbuild 09-27-2002, 06:18 AM i think 3 characters worth alot, 3 letters... ya, something
nameslave 09-27-2002, 08:42 AM FYI: hkg.net was sold for US$5,000. But that was about a year ago. Hope this helps.
DaBoss 09-27-2002, 09:33 AM I also owned a 3 char domain ... ds1.org
DS1 - Digital Satellite (Good for those interested in running DSS sitez :))
DS1 - Equivalent of T1 (Good for Tier I providers).
DS1 - Satellite launched to orbit years ago.
How much would you pay for ds1.org ?
Who do you think will be interested ? (Governments, Military, ISP, DSS Webmasters?)
:)

nameslave 09-27-2002, 03:02 PM >DutchSchultz: US$2,000 ?? maybe?
You must be kidding! I have been selling dnx.org at US$600 and can't get rid of it! :bawling:
DutchSchultz 09-27-2002, 03:33 PM I am serious, NameSlave. :)
Find the right buyer.....
I saw somebody bought a domain similar like that, and paid more tha 2k.
:)
UH-Matt 09-27-2002, 04:13 PM 3 char domains can be picked up from deleted domain databases all the time... they arent worth much unless you can find maybe a company who uses the same letters/numbers in their name :)

1. Not true (unless it's the junk combos: y0q.com for example)
2. Not true: over 150 domains sold this year on ebay and directly.
UH-Matt 09-28-2002, 06:05 AM timechange : y11 is not a junk combo ? ? :)
Chris Marks 09-28-2002, 11:33 AM What about three character .com's, are they worth anything? I have 54v.com

Some letters are truly less desired than others. It's a matter of what you plan to do with the domain or how you plan to resell it.
In this case we have y11.net - not .com
But this does not mean it's a worthless domain!
The simplest form of usage for this would be for a nameserver that you'd give to your customers, instead of "bubbashostingdns.com"

That's a good name, and you can get $50 or more for it. Why no upper limit? Because the end buyer has to price the domain differently than its potential market value.
For the particular one, it has 2 consecutive numbers and a strong letter (a weak letter would have been q, y etc.)
Also the digit 4 can substitute the word "for" in many cases.
So "Five for Victory" would be a neat explanation of what your domain means :D
