Hi guys/girls, I'm new to this forum.

I'm looking to get a dedicated server over the next few months for my business. I'm looking for a hosting company that is very reliable. I don't have time for problems, and I don't need to see my site down all the time. I also want real support that is there for you 24/7. My server requirements are not set in the stone, so I won't list them. I'd rather not go through a reseller because a lot of times, the support is pretty bad. I hope some of you can recommend a few. I would prefer that they are in either the USA or Canada. Cost is not an issue, but I'd like to see bandwidth around $1-$2/GB per month.

Thanks

RMF

Do you have servers there, UmBillyCord? :)

Well, this board is hosted and owned by RackShack.net...Pretty good.

You can't go wrong with Fastservers.net (located in the HE.net datacenter). We've only had servers with them for a month, but downtime has been nonexistant. Not sure if they're taking any orders right now, though :(

They are somewhat competition. So for me to say that speaks volumes. I had stuff there long ago and they were exceptional. I know companies with servers there now. They love them. I think if you took a poll on dedicated providers, rank them in terms of service, support, etc... they would be #1 in many peoples books.

RackSPACE, not RackSHACK. ;)

I would agree, RackSPACE is one of the top providers out there.

Dialtone is also pretty good.

I agree with tribby, the other providers listed here are probably great too, but HE.net is exceptional, I have a friend who owns a full rack there, if youre interested in a cheap colo or dedicated server, you can checkout www.zoidial.com
Happy hunting

i do agree on the exceptional part about he.net ... but http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73291&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 about fastservers ... sorry fastservers ... but i was actually that unimpressed with those download speeds, i was seriously considering moving all my stuff over (because he.net is that damn good), but fdc gives me comparable speeds (if not better in cases), and fdc uses cogent and is a few thousand miles further from me than you...

netdude,
very surprising, if they're colocated at he.net I dont see why the downloads would be slow. I download things at blazing speeds, wonder whats up with fastservers? some sort of bandwidth cap maybe?

Maybe Fastserver's outgoing pipelines to He.net is too limiting? I'm not network guru, but just a guess.

In response to the Rackspace recommendation(s):

There is lots of spam flowing from Rackspace customers, with little or no action taken by the Rackspace abuse desk. As a result, large chunks of Rackspace's netblocks are listed in SPEWS - something to consider if email is important to you.

Pretty much the same story at HE (hurricane electric), except that they don't even pretend to care:

Good luck.

If only they had descent spec servers in the $500/mth price target. Their Linux servers [low spec] start at $250/mth and the next lot come in at [good spec] $850/mth. There's nothing in the middle.

But I heard in this forum that FDC sucks BIG time.
Their support sucks, people say that they need 3 days to change HDD or at one case 18 hours.
I can't let that happen to my clients, they would kill me :)
It seems that nocster.com, fastservers.net (have buggy site), rackshack.net are good hosting companies. I don't know about sentris (http://216.71.5.232/latest/dedicated.shtml), I would take them because of nice pricing and bandwidth, but people say they support isn't very good, usually being ignored or something like that.
