Hello all,
I am considering (within a year) of beginning to charge for hosting services (Been doing it as a hobby for friends for about 1 year now to get experience, free of charge).
I had ideas about adult hosting, and I wanted to get some opinions on any differences between hosting adult content VS a standard business or personal web-site.
Are there any additional steps/safety precautions you would recommend for doing adult hosting ?
Thanks

I don't host adult sites, but, I do know that because of the amount of traffic and income they generate, you better know what you're doing as a host. You'll need extremely reliable bandwidth, equipment, and security. I wouldn't even think of putting a big adult site on a shared box with 200 other sites!
There are probably some adult hosts here can be more specific than that.

You should be prepared for high traffic and a lot of hacking attempts...

Yes, hosting adult sites typically comes with a whole new set of playing rules in content allowed (duh), spamming policies, traffic and bandwidth monitoring and definately hacks. It's certainly an industry within itself.

We are an adult host, and the others are correct you have to worry about more bandwidth, and security, though for us that hasn't been a problem. Spamming is something that you do have to worry about from the customers that you have. Also you must keep constant watch over the content that the webmasters use, primarily to make sure that they are not using anything that might stir legal issues. We have only to this point had to terminate one account because of this.
We also offer standard hosting, 80% of our customers host adult sites, so for us it has been much more profitable than standard hosting.
But otherwise our adult webmasters are very good people, and they pay on time all the time.

Actually lp you are quite wrong about that, most of my customers are small fries, and they are struggling to put together the right site that will make them money. With the adult site market saturated with site, and free porn for the taking thanks to those same struggling webmasters, its hard to make a buck, take it from me I to am an adult webmaster, and run my own hosting company.

No matter what industry I have had the pleasure of working in, I have yet to find the one where people want to just walk up and give me money. Adult or mainstream they both require hardwork and perseverance!! Good luck when you make the change but be prepared for a whole set of new questions. :wavey:
