I'm just wondering why many companies offering reseller packages use CPanel, as opposed to Ensim, Plesk, *******, etc...

Price? Features? Looks?

Thanks

And why can't I type <removed> without it being starred? Is there something really bad about them I should know about?

Many will disagree, but I think people like the way it looks.

I like it for its easy to use features,

first time users shouldnt hav too much problem.

Ensim looks too complicated.

Hi,

It looks good and easy to control for new customers. :)

you will get lot of preinstalled scripts with cpanel.

Currently CPanel/WHM has more features than Ensim or Plesk. Plus, CPanel allows you to use your own skin which many web hosts find useful.

My hosting company says that cPanel is very very buggie. They are blaming numerous downages on cPanel. Has anyone heard of such problems?

CPanel has a good chunk of bugs, it depends on the configuration of course. But then again, all software with decent/new features will have bugs

Personally i've been finding 2 things.

1. CPanel when a box is restarted, it doesen't always bind all the ip's that were attached to it (thats a royal pain, esp when you have like 100 ip's on a server)
2. CPanel backups/server to server transfers can leave a lot to be desired, i've foudn its easier to delete the backups and force cpanel to recreate them if they dont work, seems to work well, takes ages though.

it has it's quirks, but the older features are all very stable, and some house-keeping will keep everything in order. Entrusting CPanel and WHM to keep your servers clean and in top form is madness in my opinion (along with any push button solution). You should spend some time in root digging around cleaning up after things (like httpd.conf for example as well as leftover files from dead accounts).
