I've personally tried doing that on a couple of portals I was working on and never had success. I downloaded the binaries from multiple sites and could never get it working :( . I gave up and went with my_egallery.

we had no trouble at all putting the pre-compiled files in our clients root and pointing the script to that

sorry for the lack of updates, surfing the net is frowned upon at work. I still have not done anything.
