i there were a lot in the early days, but all propreitary and commercially unavailable.

communitech had something that was very good, and so did intermedia

i had seen evolutionware's system fusion (very espensive), as well as hsphere (when it was all in perl) back 3-4 years ago

hmm, there was one company that quoted me 30k setup and monthly like the ensim serverXchange deal, but it was way too clugy, almost like sphera.

alabanza was the first i think with the first control panel that really made sense , but again it was not available, you had to buy a server with them. the "alabanza" look still persists in other control panels out there..

Our techs still hate the whole idea of a control panel. Their thought is "we are under someone else's control" ;) It's hard teaching an old dog new tricks!

Well its be under their control or be under the control of customers 24/7 - id much rather loose control and let customers modify all ftp/email settings on their own. It saves hours if not DAYS of work at least. Anyway, we wrote our own, so we are under our control - but i cant imagine living without any cp - and im sure the customers arent too happy either

I would have to think in terms of CP just for the hosting customer - Cobalts RAQ CP.

very true, but turbolinux of japan had a very nice web based replacement for webmin called hde-gui. too bad the us distro didn't have it.
