I have a bunch of sites with webhosting.com that I'm looking to move fast.
One feature that webhosting offers is what they call "shadow nameservers" - that is, personalized DNS - ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com - that resolve to the webhosting servers, but that appear if one of my clients does a simple whois.
I'd like to move to futurequest, for example, but they don't offer this nameserver service, and if I move there, my clients can see that I'm hosting them there via a quick whois.
I'm wondering why more hosts don't offer this? And can anyone recommend a couple of reliable hosts that do?
Any thoughts/explanations welcome!!
Thanks

I believe that there are several hosts that will offer this to you. However, there are likely to be minimum criteria associated with this process. Either a committment to a minimum number of sites or a managed server.

http://www.vdi.net
http://www.hostopia.com
http://www.verio.com (but I'm not positive about this)
are companies that I am aware of that will offer this service.
Please email me if you want further details.

any host which offers dedicated servers, will let you have this option with there dedicated plans.. to find something like this for virtual hosting would be a lil tuff :)

Right, but I need the ease of setup of virtual hosting. I don't know enough server stuff to go with a dedicated server.

Seems you want to be a reseller. There are many hosts here that can and will provide that service for you.
Check out thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3053
Look for hosts that offer reseller plans.

I've just switched to Ventures Online, and they have allowed me to do this. As far as I know, they didn't charge me anything extra for it.

Right. I guess that wasn't clear enough in my original post I already am a reseller, with a couple dozen clients. I'm just looking for a reseller package that offers the nameserver deal mentioned.
And, yes, I know, as a couple of you have pointed out, anyone with any real knowhow can trace things pretty easily and see where I'm hosting, but the personalized nameserver will simply cause a quick check on whois to show my "fake" nameservers as host.
Thanks
