Hello friends...
I've faced a strange situation with one of the OnlineNIC's resellers. I'm looking for your suggestions about how should I move into this matter.
I've registered a domain name through a reseller of OnlineNIC on 7th Sept. The reseller put the registrant's name as my name and my address and gave me the domain manager's url and password to me.
When I entered the domain manager, I realized that it was the reseller's private domain manager. Though I could change all other contact details to reflect to my client's name (including the registrant's address and email address), I was not able to change the registrant's name.
So, I contacted the reseller, and asked about how to change the registrant's name. He asked for $40. I have registered many domains through OpenSRS, and I knew that one could change all the details including registrant's name. So I thought he was joking, but the reseller told me seriously about the policy of OnlineNIC, and he also mentioned that it was OnlineNIC's charge not theirs.
I visited OnlineNIC and gone through their website, specially FAQs, where it was clearly written that, all details of a domain can be changed by the domain registrant without any charge.
There I found a link to the domain manager of OnlineNIC. I tried to log-in into the domain manager of OnlineNIC, without any success. I again contacted the reseller about this, and he refused to give me the password for OnlineNIC's domain manager.
So, I lodged a complaint with the CMO of OnlineNIC against the reseller and also contacted the Asia Pacific's Support, Carrie, through ICQ. Carrie asked me to forward the mail to her, so I did so. I explained everything through the ICQ for about an hour or so and she agreed that OnlineNIC charges $30 for changing the registrant's name.
When I asked Carrie about where it was written in their site, I was given a URL, which was password protected--meant for their resellera. However, Carrie agreed that any domain registrant, registered through OnlineNIC should be given the actual password to access the domain manager of OnlineNIC. Carrie also agreed that as per ICANN's rule, change in the registrant's name by the registrant himself should not carry any charge. However, she mentioned, that she knows that as per ICANN's 'new' rule, this charge should not be there, but the site is yet to update that details. (Remember, she told me earlier, that OnlineNIC charges $30 for name change and the reseller asked for $40!).
However, I requested Carrie to take appropriate steps, so that my client can :
(a) replace my name with his name without incurring any kind of charge, and
(b) all my clients (I've registered quite a few domain names through OnlineNIC) should be able to manage their domains directly from OnlineNIC's domain manager without any intervention of its resellers.
I think I did not ask for something illegal or impossible.
Carrie assured me that she will do the needful and forwarded my complaint to the reseller with a request to look into the matter.
However, though approx 12 hours passed after I received that forwarded mail, I didn't receive any response from the reseller. About 5 hours back I again contacted Carrie about this, and she told me that the reseller has assured her that he will contact me.
Now I find her online in the ICQ but with a tag 'Not Available'. I left a message, with no reply.
I'm totally confused about how to go about this, that's why I'm posting over here. My client feels that I'm going to steal his domain name as it's a 3-letter .com domain name, which has got great market value.
So, I'm asking you fellow members, if you could suggest me about how to proceed about this matter.
Thanks in advance,
EssEss
