.ru domain, do you need to live in Russia?

Is it like .it (is there any way I could one of those (living in the UK) also)?

Anyone can own a .ru domain apart if you live in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador or Spain
Quote:

In Bolivia, a private person cannot register a domain; only institutions or businesses can register, whether or not they are constituted inside the country.
In addition, in Spain and Ecuador only institutions/organizations (constituted inside or out of the country) can register; persons can register a domain only as a name of a registered trademark, for which they must be the owner.
In Brazil the owner of the domain is required to be native to or be a resident of the country.

As any ccTLD domain name that might have specific rules. Be extra careful with that. You might need to have Russian administrative contacts for the domain name.

Also, I just found this
Quote:

Italy
Registration is restricted to 5 categories of entities located in the European Union:
(1) European companies
(2) European Professionals
(3) European Public bodies
(4) European Associations
(5) European Individuals

Does this mean I can register one (as I'm a European individual)?
