View Full Version : Looking for inspiration
HostedPlanet 11-04-2008, 09:13 PM I'm getting ready to rebrand my hosting operation and I think my current site is very sub-par... so much so that I am hesitant to link it.
As part of the rebrand I have been researching other hosting sites' designs. I am wondering which hosting provider's designs you guys like best and why?
Julian Jorgensen 11-04-2008, 09:33 PM Hi there!
Personally I like one.com since it's just simple and easy...
Another good design is surftown.dk (you'd have to not be confused by the danish). The last one I like because it's got a lot of information and content, and yet it keeps it pretty readable and user-friendly.
For a web hosting website you should prioritize
1. Navigation
2. User friendliness

Hope that gave a bit of inspiration!
Good luck!
HostedPlanet 11-04-2008, 10:09 PM i should also mention that I intend to continue using whmcs, so those ones would be great too
LiveHelpGuy 11-05-2008, 12:13 AM You talk about a new branding for your business...what you may want to consider is looking at a lot of hosting websites, and then design a site that DOES NOT LOOK like any other site you've seen.
I mean, branding is about standing out -- so why imitate a design of a competitor?
Orien 11-05-2008, 01:51 AM MediaLayer, Mediatemple, A Small Orange, PrecisionEffect, SliceHost, etc. all have designs that stand out to me.

I'm not looking to imitate. My web design skills at this point are very poor, and I lack a certain creative spark. Hence why I asked what people like about those designs so that I can better understand what potential clients look for.
RN-Chris 11-05-2008, 05:19 AM Since you said that you lack creative spark, Maybe hire a designer that would be willing to just take a general idea of what you want and put their owner creative flair into it?
I know not all designers are keen on this as but I have had designers that are designers because they love art and love to express their creativity. Therefore the type of work you want done is exactly what they are really looking for.

If you have poor design skills as said above hire a designer. This will allow you to have a quality website that not only looks great but works.
Nothing more off putting to potential customers than going to a hosts site and it does not work or poorly designed. If their site is poorly designed what does that say about their hosting?
pimpinhosting 11-06-2008, 02:01 AM Hosting sites can look like junk but dosnt mean there webhosting is junk. You know? It could go either way.

No I do understand that but first impressions are important.
FireHost 11-06-2008, 11:26 PM I'd consider your message as the priority before design. Gone are the days of simply having a professional looking site with your hosting plans listed. Concentrate on how you will be unique and why they can't say no to you. Once you figure out your message, then the design will fall out of that easily (for a professional web designer/developer).

Yes, one.com is one of my favorites. This should give some good inspiration. Though you have limited design skills I trust your implementation skills are up to par.
I admire your DIY ethic, keep going!
