Is there anyway to create my own Call Of Duty server for Xbox 360? If so what would it cost and what would it take? I currently have a VPS, would it work with that?

If someone knows, they will post. ;) Dan_EZPZ 11-04-2008, 06:17 PM Not really sure why you would want to do this. The game uses one of the players as the host and not a central server. iiDesign 11-04-2008, 06:23 PM Is that how it works? So then the game automatically creates the maps you play at then? Dan_EZPZ 11-04-2008, 06:39 PM Yep, they're chosen randomly. This is why you sometimes get the 'Host has ended the game' message.. as they've disconnected. iiDesign 11-04-2008, 06:41 PM Oh I did not know that, I always thought you had to have a server. Thanks! HG-Daniel 11-04-2008, 07:45 PM XBOX Live uses the Peer-to-Peer model, not client-server like most PC based games. At the start of a game the user with the best connection will server as the server basically. KieranT 11-05-2008, 07:55 AM Just out of curiosity after reading this post Is that how it works? So then the game automatically creates the maps you play at then? Did you want to have a server that you can add your own maps to? Like on the PC version? And on the subject of Xbox Live, you connect to each other via a server if I am not mistaken? Thats how the game finds the information to connect you to people that are local? GixxerPC 11-06-2008, 08:34 PM Xbox you can not have a 'dedicated' server to my knowledge. However, with the PC versions this is definately an option. citricsquid 11-07-2008, 05:32 AM Xbox you can not have a 'dedicated' server to my knowledge. In a way it would be possible, if they had an xbox 360 and a dedicated 24/7 connection, they would start the game from the xbox in the datacentre, or wherever it's being hosted from. I wonder if microsoft have any sort of ToS that rules against this, might be another type of hosting ;) Mind, xbox 360's are so noisy and overheat a lot :( Mr. Obvious 11-07-2008, 11:30 AM Just out of curiosity after reading this post Did you want to have a server that you can add your own maps to? It does use xbox live to do all of its main functions, but as its been said, the person with the best connection acts as the server. Patrick67 11-07-2008, 02:54 PM There are actually Dedicated servers for Xbox and PS2 the former all hosted by MS and the game creators. They keep this code under lock and key, the latter PS2 as well but there are a few companies (GSP's) that have PS2 code for specific titles and rent them out. Basicaly a small console App but they eat a ton of CPU. I do hehe it's great :) Flumps 11-12-2008, 06:53 AM im waiting for mine to be sent....its annoying... ordered it yesterday before 5pm and its still not dispatched yet. I'll be phoning them this afternoon if its still not dispatched. Plus there would be an "afk" player (your server) in every game iiDesign 11-13-2008, 02:29 PM im waiting for mine to be sent....its annoying... ordered it yesterday before 5pm and its still not dispatched yet. I preordered mine as well but then I said **** it I couldn't wait so I went to circle city a hour after they released it and got a copy :) veronicahiggins 11-17-2008, 01:41 PM I really don't think this is possible. M$ just doesn't allow it as far as i know. I used to work on 360 games. |
