View Full Version : what's wrong with edge-host?
nixxienix 09-10-2002, 05:46 AM I'm a new client, and so far, service and everything has been great. And they offer the nicest packages I've seen so far.
But
Theyre site has been down for the past 48 hours. Can anyone give me a clue? I've been trying to go since yesterday morning because I wanted to post something at the helpdesk. I'm a bit worried...
Thanks in advance :)
phpcoder 09-10-2002, 06:31 AM We had a problem with the one of the Plesk servers. All clients that were on the Plesk server will be moved to a new server, and have their bandwidth doubled to compensate for this loss.
lowly 09-11-2002, 03:54 AM Screw it - why didn't I buy an account already? :bawling:
What happened to your prices btw? You promised at your forum that they would stay the same.
nixxienix 09-12-2002, 09:18 AM eurgh, the site is down again
i haven't been able to contact technical support for 3 days, and now my domains are down too
i do hope edge-host gets themself together soon, and I was so happy when I signed up a week ago too... *sigh*
and yeah, I noticed this afternoon that their packages changed. that's too bad :) I was wanting to upgrade my package next month too with the old prices...
lowly 09-12-2002, 09:24 AM Hi!
You mean they haven't e-mailed you with information about this?
imitech 09-12-2002, 09:55 AM www.edge-host.com works fine from the UK :)

Forums Offline

The forums will be back online within 72 hours.
i have a virtual account with cpanel in amd3 server and it is down too.
phpcoder you give me bandwidth doubled too?
server will be online .... when?
AntiSpamHosts 09-12-2002, 05:27 PM Uh...I wanted to visit those sites, so Alec, give me bandwith :D
i want to say that my site is down too, i know bandwith is stupid without uptime server.
this is important for us, you do not make jokes, please.
nixxienix 09-12-2002, 09:59 PM The downtime yesterday wasn't long, but it was still pretty frustrating, ive had at least one everyday for the past 3 days. And I really need to contact tech support, because one of my prospective clients is asking a question which i cant answer.
although despite everything, edge-host is still one of the best i've tried :) and support is usually very accomodating. i do hope they get everything sorted out soon.
phpcoder 09-12-2002, 10:07 PM nixxienix,
The last of the updates will be taking place tonight. Basically what happened is our only/first server at Rackshack "broke". All clients on the server were then quickly moved to a new server in one of our datacenters.
We then had to update the nameservers IP's, but that caused a problem. For some reason it didn't pick up ns3, ns4, so it went to ns5, ns6.... which is one of our NT servers.
Since DNS has been updating, it has effected the servers for small amounts of time. Tonight everything will be restored, including the forums, helpdesk, main site, etc.
The contact information is still on the site however. Contact me:
abaker@edge-host.com, and I will help you out with whatever you need.
Again, we apologize for this, and will make sure that this doesn't happen again. If anybody else has any questions, comments, or concerns… please contact one of the Edge-Host staff.
Thanks for sticking with us,
Alec
magick 09-13-2002, 11:56 AM is this the reason it says youre not accepting new signups? i had recently asked about hosting and was thinking about contacting you guys to finalize some info.
or are you not accepting new signups for another reason?
thanks!
ChrisTech 09-13-2002, 12:00 PM they also have quit doing customized packages as well...I was asking about those the other day, because I was going to switch to them...guess I am glad I didnt. But then again with my current host it aint that great either...
Layzee 09-13-2002, 12:09 PM Actually IMHO, I think Edge-Host is doing things the right way by not taking in new customers while they get their servers straightened out. I'm hosted by them and would love to see everything worked out, and I feel that they should take care of the problems first before accepting new clients. I'm sure accepting new clients while dedicating the time and effort to taking care of the servers will just complicate things.
I'm glad to see that they did not go the "Cyberwings" way and accept a mass of new clients while *trying* to service the current ones.
Geek3 09-13-2002, 12:12 PM yes, that's true, but I know of a dozen ways to get things rolling again if I were head admin there. It would be a week (max 12 days) of patience, but after that, i could ensure speed. However, who knows.. edge-host is probably already doing that. ;-)
phpcoder 09-13-2002, 02:39 PM Ok, let me clarify a few things...
Layzee and ecpHosting are correct. We aren't accepting signups for a few reasons:
1) Like eservers, like RS, etc we don't always have servers available.
2) We don't want to get 20 new signups in one day and not be able to handle them. That would be poor service.
3) We admit that we are not 100% problem free, and are working on resolving all of the issues before getting more clients.
4) We are developing a client center, like RS has, so that members can easily ask for IP's, reboots, etc. We are also bringing a few more services and staff into the picture.
Why aren't we doing custom packages for the time being? The answer is quite simple... Modernbill isn't the best program for doing custom packages. You always need to add a new package, overwrite the price, etc. So... until we find a way to work around this we will not be offering any custom packages.
If you have any other questions, please contact us ASAP so that we can get them resolved J
Cheers,
Alec
