View Full Version : ASCII editor recommendations?

I've been using gEdit and Quanta and other great open source software in Linux for some time now...
but now I have a new job where I'm working in a Windows environment and I need a really good, fast, flexible, and free ASCII editor.
Something like NoteTab or Edit+ except, it has to have as many pro-level features and be legitimately free.
The company is a non-profit and can't buy anything more for me outside their standard package (Adobe Creative Suite...which ROCKS! But sometimes I need a quick editor for PHP and JS without having to wait 5 minutes for Dreamweaver to open), and obviously cracked software is right out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Liam

Aptana Studio might be your new friend! it's free, faster then Dreamweaver and is amazingly feature packed!

Have a look at Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/) yet?

Aptana Studio looks fantastic. Might be more than I need, since we already have Dreamweaver et al at work, but I can sure use it at home.
And the Notepad++ looks like just what I'm looking for.
The auto-complete just completes the word, unfortunately, and doesn't give you function syntax like Zend or Quanta (for example, if you start typing 'eregi', other auto-completes will pop-up a reminder of what objects can go in the parenthesis, or if you type 'switch' and selectthe auto-complete, it will give you the whole variable-through-break format), but hey, beggars and choosers, right?
:)
Thanks for the replies!
