View Full Version : Hostgator Review

I have had a hostgator reseller account for close to 2 years to host a few low traffic sites. If you rely on your web sites being up and working consistently I would look elsewhere. The server I have been on is obviously way oversold. Server loads on it are ridiculous. There has been times where I had to contact live chat (when it works) multiple times a day almost every day of the month to tell them my sites aren't working because of high load. I just looked now and the server load is 24.90 (2 cpus). I don't care what they say... constant loads of 20+ are not acceptable. Things may still work... but barely, and with a big lag time. This server seems to be pretty much always right on the edge of going down. Numerous support tickets didn't take care of the problem... so I pretty much just gave up. The other thing is... when their server loads are 30+ and your sites don't load that doesn't count as downtime because the server is technically up. If you need this kind of hosting I think you are much better to look elsewhere and get a vps. It is a little bit more money, but well worth not having the headaches of Hostgator's oversold servers. I will be happy to verify my hostgator account with the mods if necessary. Just let me know how to do it.

Really sorry that you are having bad times with them. To report your domain please click the report button on the top right of your post. But I do expect a hostgator representative here soon to explain the other side.

Thanks. I reported it. I know there are a lot of satisfied Hostgator customers. I am just reporting my honest experience. I think a lot may depend on which server you end up on. The thing is though, I asked a couple times to be moved to another server because the one I have/had sites on appears to be really overloaded and never got a response from support on that.

Thanks. I reported it Domain received and hosted by Hostgator. Thank you!
constant loads of 20+ are not acceptable Indeed they are not, especially if the server is slow as well. It might not be a bad idea to try and contact Brent and have him take a look at the situation and how things have been handled. (brent@HG or open a ticket and ask to have it assigned to him)

Where did you move your reseller account to?

A few months ago I started moving these accounts over to Wired tree. So far they have been awesome. At some point, I will write a more detailed review of them.

This is one of the first HostGator horror stories I've seen. Also someone suggested you might want to get in contact with Brent the CEO of HostGator.
All the best,

Really ? :-)
IMHO .. hostgator isn't good hosting for "real" sites.
If you have site based on any php script ... host your site on another host. Hostgator can suspend your account, and don't answer to your questions/tickets more than 3-5 hours ... and after this claim -> your site make high loading.
Don't surprise if your site don't make any high loading during last 2 years, that was hosted on the same host.
Don't surprise if your site haven't more than 15 uniqs/per day ...
It's hostgator.
Just now i keep this hosting just for html sites.

You must be hosted on a very old server with 2CPUs
It's quite weird that they don't upgrade the server / do not offer to move your account to a new server.

All the best,
I've seen a few here and there but nothing major or with serious issues.
Once people realize they can't host a site getting thousands of hits, with poorly written scripts the issues seem to be resolved though (not saying that is the case with OP, but just a general observation)

How can you manage with constant loads of 20+? This is what should be happening with most of the oversellers.

Hello,
Can you let me know one of the ticket numbers you opened with us? I'd like to investigate the server you are on since I personally watch loads and have not noticed any servers constantly at 20+.
Thanks!

I assume you had spoken to HG support about this problem, What did they say to you to help resolve or fix the load of 20+ ?
