JenniH 09-09-2002, 02:35 PM I've had an account with them for 4 months. The server seems to be down for 1 day per month (average) based on the web counter. I've emailed 3 times to enquire about this... all three emails have been totally ignored. SemteX 09-09-2002, 03:23 PM Hmm...not good... sbhmike 09-09-2002, 05:05 PM email them a few technical questions ,then wait ,then wait then wait . then be happy you didn`t sign up with him Informity 09-09-2002, 05:29 PM They are very good... at least for me... definately worth the £12/year($18) You can't complain for that price... very fast for me! And i have only had downtime which lasted about 5 hours in total over my 5 months with them(which they contacted their customers about straight away) Some emails i have had from them: We are experiencing problems with Server 2, the server is not responding and has been offline for over 2 hours now. We have a technician handling this problem at Telehouse, unfortunately we cannot estimate when this server will be online again. We apologise for this incident and will endeavour to get your site online again as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. IT Manager: James Innes Bargain Host -------------- At approximately 18:30 2nd July 2002, our network came under attack from a new worm/virus, similar to the code red worm of last year. Once infected by this worm, these machines began to scan the Internet for other vulnerable hosts to infect, this created a massive amount of traffic within our network, saturating certain links and overloading routers. Our London based servers which include control panel, mail and UNIX web site services, were largely unaffected, however access to our Doncaster based data centre which hosts Windows 2000 web sites and the majority of customer dedicated and co-located servers was slow at best. Due to the nature of this attack, it was particularly difficult and time consuming to diagnose, however once the cause had been established, the infected hosts were immediately disconnected from the network and normal service was resumed at approximately 00:00 3rd July 2002. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident, and thank you for your patience. Kind regards, Bargain Host Support ----------- As for the support issue, i contacted them one time enquiring about some account queries... response within about 15mins... Use the online support ticket form in your members area to send support. They have only not responded to my support requests when i have either cancelled them or they were questions about things that they can see i have resolved... If you want support, use the ticket, as i said... email support is slower... Remember they have no uptime guarentees, but they are perfect for small websites who just want php/mysql to run basic scripts etc. and for testing sites... VERY fast pings(20ms) for me to their servers since they are at a datacenter very close to me whos providors contain my ISP ;) www.telehouse.net :) As i say, you can't really complain about the downtime when you are paying so little... its definately worth what you re paying for, and i can strongly reccomend them... they DO cram the servers, and the loads are astronomical, but i have not had any serious performance problems with them at all... i get the maximum speed my connection can handle(80k/s) from them and scripts are quite fast... it may be because i was one of the first customers to be transfered onto the new server(load avgs = 0.05 ... that was nice ;) ) http://www.3x4.co.uk/system/index.php?template=metal Look at those load averages lol... but its decent enough for small sites and for about $18/year for php/mysql and cpanel its still a good buy. SemteX 09-09-2002, 06:00 PM Are you still with them? So they won't be suitable if you're going to set up a community forum? Informity 09-10-2002, 02:58 AM I am still with them. They are OK for forums, but the bandwidth is not high enough... a popular forum i used to run ate 50gig/month, and you only get 1gig/month at bargainhost... saj 12-24-2002, 05:42 PM Rubbish! thats all i have to say!! Stay away from them!!!! ive got an account with them due to Expire soon i shall not be renewing my account Response to emails and support is rubbish ur probably better off watching paint dry or talking to a brick wall. They never Reply to emails! Half the time it takes absolutely Ages to load up their Site! stay away with them...yes they are cheap and their package looks gr8! but there is a lot of catches1 saj gravicdesign 01-16-2003, 09:43 AM yeah they are the crappest of the crap, the new "Online Helpdesk" is a joke, they dont even read it. Avoid at all costs... Im just hoping I can get my domain when the hosting runs out.. UH-Matt 01-16-2003, 10:08 AM use the acid test and email support@ with some technical questions - time the response :) Goodluck serverbroker 02-18-2003, 12:08 PM Originally posted by gravicdesign yeah they are the crappest of the crap, the new "Online Helpdesk" is a joke, they dont even read it. Avoid at all costs... Im just hoping I can get my domain when the hosting runs out.. HMM ...we have a problem with this company at the moment - they give free domains with the packages but register them under the email address admin@bargainhost.co.uk Now we have several new clients running from Bargainhost due to their constant downtime and zero support who cannot get their domains transferred as they will not authorise the transfer request. We are currently threatening legal action and talking with the registrars to get these domains back for our clients..... Personally i dont think it looks promising for you if you wish to transfer and take your domain with you. We have purchased alternative domains on behalf of all Bargainhost clients we have obtained so that they can at least function their sites whilst this is resolved. static.child 02-18-2003, 01:10 PM ouch i'll be staying away from them for sure Planets Host 02-21-2003, 12:57 AM I dont see alot of good feed backs for any company these days!!! Do you ppl know why? Akash 02-21-2003, 01:00 AM It's probably because too many companies are in the business just to make a quick buck - they haven't planned anything out and don't host for the customer - they host for themselves ($$$) |
